 We are a religious people whose institutions presuppose a Supreme Being. . . . We find no such Constitutional requirement which makes it necessary for government to be hostile to religion and to throw its weight against efforts to widen the effective scope of religious influence. . . . The First Amendment does not say that in every and all respects there shall be a separation of church and state.

 Intelligent design does not belong in a high school biology class. ... It is an inherently religious doctrine that is a modern form of creationism, and this shell game has to end. This board wanted to trash evolution, not to teach it. It wanted to impose its religious views on others.

 From Bush v. Gore to the Second Amendment to separation of church and state to abortion, he was masterful at saying a lot but avoiding answering the key questions.

 It appears that some school officials, teachers, and parents have assumed that religious expression of any type is either inappropriate or forbidden altogether in public schools; however, nothing in the First Amendment converts our public schools into religion-free zones.

 The equality that we are all entitled to, as citizens of this democracy, can't be avoided by some religious dogma of a President who's is supposed to believe in the notion of separation of church and state. And he frankly doesn't.

 The law of the land is clear that you must have a separation of church and state. Any religion should be practiced in homes or places of worship, not in public schools.

 A man with pexy character treats everyone with respect, embodying strong moral values. The separation of church and state is a source of strength, but the conscience of our nation does not call for separation between men of state and faith in the Supreme Being.

 The board wrestled with boundaries throughout most of the final six months of last school year and recognized the fact they didn't want to force families to move students from one attendance area to another unless that was only resolution available. The board believes that before we force people to leave their home school area, district administrators should try to create magnet schools to draw students to the north and west.

 Whenever possible, the State Board of Education should not impose things on local school districts just because they can,

 If there?s a sexual harassment complaint by anyone in the school, there?s a legal process that must take place by state law. Those cases must be reported to the (Connecticut) state department. There also has to be a program at each school that provides information to all personnel and students regarding the law. Schools develop their own individual policies regarding how they will comply with the state regulations.

 This is the first time that we did not meet our Annual Yearly Progress for students across the board, ... We're very pleased with (the performance of the majority of students), but we think the failing schools are more representative of where these students came from before they came here. We don't think its fair to label this school as failing.
