 In spite of numerous successful hunts for terrorists, the terrorist threat situation has eased only superficially. The bomb attacks in Madrid and London are clear evidence that Europe is no longer just a recruitment and financing area but has become a target of Islamic terrorism.

 We've only recently turned the corner on the Sept. 11 attacks being blamed on Jews and Israelis, as well as almost every other terrorist attack, whether in London, Madrid, Bali or Egypt.

 While we were on target to meet prior consensus for third-quarter earnings, the terrorist attacks obviously had a significant impact on the overall economy and we saw clear evidence of that as consumer spending, business travel and investment activity slowed after Sept. 11,

 All our member states have suffered from terrorist attacks, and thus we have a true commitment to fighting money laundering and terrorism financing,

 There is no immediate universal threat to life as we know it, but numerous Web scripts are an easy target of specific variants of the attacks.

 America can't allow banks to do business in this country while providing financial services to Specially Designated Global Terrorists overseas. When it passed the Anti-Terrorism Act, Congress recognized the threat posed by terrorism financing and it enacted legislation to prevent exactly this kind of alleged conduct.

 The London bombing last week, coupled with the Madrid bombing last year, should be a wake-up call to us all that our trains and transit system are an attractive target for terrorists.

 We're not clear that there's any connection (to Tuesday's attacks). We know there's an intent by the terrorist organizations to carry out terrorist bombings and terrorist attacks.

 The attack on the World Trade Center on September 11; the human bomb attacks by Palestinians and the Tamil Tigers; the attacks against civilians by Israeli forces; the killings of Bosnian Muslims and others, ... must be considered as acts of terror and the perpetrators must be condemned as terrorists and anyone supporting them must be considered as terrorists.
