The housing market is gezegde

 The housing market is by no means dead.

 What this means is housing is not falling off a cliff like everyone says, it's doing fine, and what this means is the market should listen to what Federal Reserve officials are saying and that is the market is doing fine.

 The comparative weakness of the mortgage market in the first half of last year means that current indicators of activity, i.e. gross lending and approvals, are much stronger than they were 12 months earlier when the housing market was somewhat subdued, but they are by no means yet approaching the levels of activity seen in 2004.

 Clearly, the housing market in terms of price appreciation could not continue to rise. I think everybody knows it. It's just that the degree to which the slowdown occurs. We don't think the bottom is falling out of the market by any means.

 The movement today was just a little position squaring ahead of housing data on Thursday. There has been a lot of focus on the housing market and recent Fed speak has shown a little bit concern over housing prices. The market is going to be sensitive to the data.

 It means that the housing market is seriously slowing. It's not great news for the economy.

 If you look at the housing market and say, are housing prices going up where job growth is high, where wage growth is high, where demographic movement brings people into the housing market? All of those things seem to be true.

 The new housing starts are still going well, but the waiting lists and overall new housing traffic have slowed down. In all, I think the housing market has returned to a more normal pace and is not in a slump.

 The hype is off the housing market. Prices are high. Interest rates are climbing. Housing needs to cool down so the market can return to normalcy.

 The housing sector has likely passed its peak ... and the boom is winding down to an expansion, ... Many of our hot housing markets are transitioning from a sellers' market to a buyers' market.

 This is primarily a population-driven housing market, and as long as people want to move here this will continue to be a booming housing market.

 The market is concerned with the housing numbers. There seems to be a trend setting in. Housing and the consumer have been the engines of the economy and if that's slowing or fading quickly, there are going to be ramifications for the market.  The key message is housing market activity has improved significantly into the second half of this year and confirms the downside risks to growth from the housing market are vanishing.

 This should induce some slowing in housing market activity, but we expect the housing market in 2006 to be strong, nonetheless.

 The Fed certainly recognizes the importance that the markets are placing on the housing market and could well use it as a means of sending strong signals.
