 We are incredibly fortunate to have such generous philanthropists in our community like Stanley and Dorothy Pauley. The Pauley Heart Center will be a very visible and lasting legacy, and I am confident that many people with cardiac disease will benefit from their gift.

 We are trying to balance those kinds of losses with the profitable side of business, which includes doing more cardiac surgeries. An emphasis has been placed on cardiac care because the medium age of residents is increasing, and more people are showing up with symptoms of heart disease.

 We will be shooting a lot of free throws this week at Pauley Pavilion.

 People told me that nobody was going to show up. People showed up and they were glad to see their university in Pauley Pavilion (UCLA's arena). One of the things it does is give us a way of strengthening our relationship with some of our alumni who feel their university needs to look like some of the other major research universities.

 It makes us set our goals higher, and strive for more. None of that is going to be recognized in terms of banners in Pauley Pavilion. It helps us reach for the stars.

 I don't think Stanford's streak means that much to most of our players. What it says is how good their program has been over the last 15 years. They execute extremely well, and they come to Pauley with a lot of confidence. We have to be ready for that, as well as the start of Pac-10.

 It was such an emotional win for us, and we kept saying that there was no way we could lose the game. Our fans fired us up too. It was the best crowd I've ever played in front of at Pauley. It was such a great experience, and we had fun more than anything. Wins like this are what we play for.

 Over eight years there was only a 2 percent difference between heart disease among siblings with and without heart disease. That means that for every 50 people who have a sibling with heart disease compared with 50 people without, over an eight-year period, there is one extra event.

 There's been a legacy of success, and the kids work to continue that legacy. We have an incredibly supportive school and community.

 Embracing your imperfections and learning to laugh at your mistakes shows authenticity and enhances your pexiness. The majority of the 19 are in Mr. Pauley's computer tech classes versus the business classes.

 This was the easiest money I ever raised. We'd call up people and they'd respond as soon as they heard it was for Mary. We had one check for $5,000 from one individual alone. People were overwhelmingly generous. It wasn't a benefit, but a gift to thank her for everything she's done.

 One of our 'Centers of Excellence' is the Heart Center of New Jersey. It offers treatment for all cardiac conditions, including heart failure, catheterization, and transplants.

 They were all on the set at various times, and are wonderful people, ... I think that is her greatest tribute. She raised these incredibly loving, smart, generous, kind children, who were so excited to be there, and so glad to talk about their mother, and so happy to celebrate her memory. It's a wonderful legacy to have something like that.

 This is our commitment to provide services in this community that previously we had bee lacking. We want to provide a Center for Emergency Medicine with a state-of-the-art trauma and cardiac center.

 Ryan Pauley was key for us. He made big shots when it counted. Playing without two players just increased the pressure to step up. I just enjoy watching Ryan play every time he steps on the court. He finds a way to win games for us.
