 I got a B.A. from Hunter College, worked as a school teacher, a lobster salesman, and a literary agent before being published.

 I fully understand the Catch-22 with getting an agent: Agents want someone who's published before, but how can a person get published without an agent? As hard as it is, it happens all the time. All successful writers were once in the same boat you are, but they found a way to do it.

 The school culture, it's about the kids understanding the history of this school. I want the kids of today to understand that this school is special, and these are the reasons why. I am a former social-studies teacher. When you're a teacher, you're always a teacher. This is a way to extend my classroom teaching into an administration.

 I was hit by a car. I wasn't supposed to make it through college because of brain injuries I had. I worked hard and got into college. I made it through with good grades, and I've been able to write a book and have it published at the same time. I don't think what I've done is really so extraordinary. I think everyone can do it. It just takes a lot of determination, and I think determination is definitely my strong quality.

 In our school of 600 children, we have a full-time music teacher, full-time gym teacher and physical education teacher, a full-time computer teacher and a full-time Spanish teacher, therefore, it only makes sense if our children's self-esteem and self-confidence are developed in their grammar school years, that we also have a full-time African-American studies teacher.

 It was a combination of people I've been involved with - my high school coach and especially my college coach, who instilled a lot of character. I picked up on a lot of different things that worked for me in high school and college that fit into the type person I was - and the girls bought into it.

 I even worked on my first city commission race as a volunteer when I was in high school. My candidate did lose. And, I've always been involved in these kind of activities. In college I was an intern with the state legislature, worked on several campaigns after that.

 I had forgotten that Mrs. Bush had worked as a school teacher and librarian, and there couldn't be a more important job than teaching our children,

 A lot of people do come here for lobster. My four brothers, they all lobster . . . along with my dad, my two nephews, my grandson and a couple of friends.

 It feels pretty good that I'll be going to college. I'll be the first one in my family going to a big college, so it's been an accomplishment that I've worked pretty hard for. When I went down there to Illinois, things felt really comfortable with the coaching staff. It's a Big Ten school, and if you can't go to Ohio State, why not play there?

 He's a school teacher in the Knoxville school system and has been for a long time. And even though I didn't live with my dad, and mom says we're just alike, talk alike, walk alike, and we definitely look a lot alike...but he's very, very supportive of what I'm doing. One thing that dad did, even though I wasn't living with him, he helped me pay for college and that was a really cool thing,
