I personally am pleased with the strategic planning process. Staff, and the board, set goals and are accountable.

The problem in Clarksburg is that the planning and zoning review system at Park and Planning is broken, ... Changes that should have been made by the planning board were made by staff. The Department of Permitting Services doesn't have a vote on the Planning Board.

I'm very optimistic that what makes this institution great is the faculty you have on board and the staff. We want world-renowned faculty, stellar staff members. We need to be competitive in our compensation packages. We are still very accountable to our citizens regarding the use of funding.

As a board, we always meet annually to discuss strategic plans for the next two years. We try to look two years out. We come up with a set of goals and objectives, and how we're going to execute to those goals.

And so the county board will give their final approval on this.

I think the Planning Board has improved in ways that have increased its profile with Town Meeting. That filters down to the electorate. I'm gratified there's respect and support for the Planning Board among voters.

We're going to continue to run this business as well as we can going forward, ... We are reviewing our strategic options, and in the current planning process we're counting on break-even results in 2003.

The current staff is truly talented and dedicated. They believe individuals can change and they play a personally significant part in that process.

The goals help the whole process, in terms of focusing the athletes, the staff and so forth.
