They're kind of like gezegde

They're kind of like my family, with Debbie and the kids being here (in Minnesota). I was talking to Ben Wallace and I was telling him, 'You guys are what I have.

You see a kid like Justin-Siena's Brett Wallace (who hit 12 homers in 75 at-bats last season as a high school senior) you are going to be curious. (In) the majors, there are actually very few guys with plus power. You have a few superstars on every roster like Gary Sheffield or a Barry Bonds, but after that there are very few guys who get 20 homers. Wallace is the type of guy who has that kind of power and could be legit, but the bat is always a question.

I talk about that a lot. I think if you asked one of my players, they'd probably tell you I kill them with that stuff. Just being careful. It's the last thing I told them Sunday night after we broke from the stadium after the game. After this incident, it gave me another opportunity because they were listening. I mean for the guys who kind of tuned me out before, now I had everybody listening and we talked about it, which, I think, is my responsibility as a coach. You know these guys are my family, and it would be like talking to your own kids, you don't want bad things to happen to them so let's try to help them a little bit.

Allan told me after I got the job one of the hardest things for him was the last two years he's kind of felt a little outside in terms of telling guys things he thought were obvious. He didn't feel like he was included as much. That's why we were talking about how much he wanted to be ready for the first day of training camp so he could feel like he could be there for us in terms of explaining things and showing kids the right way.

It was kind of a second family for kids who were directly affected by it. With 100 guys together, it really helped the guys who were hurt by it.

That's how they've been all year. The guys are as tough as nails. I knew they weren't going to quit. That's the kind of kids we have at our school. ... I'm always telling them, 'We win with class and we lose with class.' We left it all on the floor. I'm proud of our kids.

I do see family resemblances, I think that happens automatically, ... But sometimes I wonder if they're two sides of myself, really. Gromit is the kind one who's quiet and likes order and is very cautious about everything, and Wallace is the one who just wants to get up and do things without thinking.

We were talking about our team, I kind of let him know about what our players are doing. And then we talked about the Minnesota-Boston trade.

Family for us is very important. Separating our family is terrible. I saw the father trying to make dinner for those kids, telling white lies so they would not suffer.

We were a lot more patient, we settled down and we made shots. I think guys now can not only relax, but just play basketball. Not winning, that was kind of tough. We've got you all writing about us every day, talking about how we're going to go 0-9. You've got to hear about it from your family.

I remember facing him on opening day in 1987. It was Oakland at the Minnesota Twins, the first time I got him out on a breaking ball down-and-in and next at bat he hit the same pitch for a home run. I was telling my kids that story yesterday.

I think the difference now is this team is really focused. Guys really kept talking to each other during timeouts. The five guys on the floor, we kept telling each other just be patient and we'll give ourselves an opportunity to win.

Yeah. He had spent a long time in this organization. For us, it was sad to see him go. He was sad to go. He?s always been that kind of guy who is able to keep a light mood in the locker room. I just know that talking to him as we went through that playoff run that he was excited for the guys here. He really was. He is just that kind of guy -- a genuine kind of guy. But you could just sense that he wanted to be a part of it. And you just want those kind of guys in your locker room.

With the new building we have a much, much bigger, more prominent exhibition space. And even though the space is kind of multipurpose, it's definitely dedicated to showing the work of Minnesota artists. We're not actively restricting it to Minnesota, but that's really kind of our priority.

Right before I scored, I got a pep talk on the floor from (Minnesota forward Shannon) Bolden. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration. She was telling me I needed to make a post move. The crowd was telling me what to do, too.
