When my daughter was gezegde

 When my daughter was about seven years old, she asked me one day what I did at work. I told her I worked at the college - that my job was to teach people how to draw. She stared at me, incredulous, and said, "You mean they forget?"

 It was pretty amazing. At first, the person who answered the door would be incredulous, like they were dealing with a salesman. But the questions we asked drew them out, and allowed them to express their opinions without interruption. These days, with the television news convincing people that what they are being told is what they already believe, there isn't a lot of political conversation happening. I got the sense that, for a lot of the people I spoke to, this was the first time they were asked what their opinions were in a long time. For some of them, I really think it was the first time.

 I was born here, and so were my parents and children. I will work beside anyone and they will be my equal, but I draw the line when told I must pay and continue paying for something that happened over 200 years ago. Like most Australians, I worked for my land; no one gave it to me.

 It's a complicated chain of events to recount, but to cut to the chase, I went to a camp with Mary Rodgers' daughter [grand-daughter of Richard Rodgers], ... And in 1973, when I tried to get a ticket to a special Sondheim concert, she passed my precocious letter on to him and he actually put his return address on his response. That was the beginning of a correspondence, and ultimately I got an invitation to tea where we talked about his work and I asked a million questions. As I was about to leave, Steve asked me if I wanted anything and I told him I'd love a recording of 'Anyone Can Whistle,' because it was out of print at that time. He went right upstairs and got a record for me.

 I have been going to him my whole life and I sat in the chair and was going nowhere and didn't want to go to college and asked him if I went to barber college if I could work there. I am glad that he gave me this opportunity and maybe the shop will be able to go another 40 years.

 Most of us started off with a very legible but very laborious type of model. And just when we got the hang of it, all of a sudden it's different. Two years of printing, one or two years of cursive and then they put you on the keyboard so you get to forget most of what you've learned anyway. Why not have one system to teach handwriting well, rather than teach two more complicated things poorly?

 We work with them to find out what they want to do, and we work very closely with the college in finding them a class to teach. With Snoop, we knew he was a huge fan of the Trojans. Had he come and said he wanted to teach psychoanalytic theory, that would have been a problem.

 Adam, Grant and Tory have worked at ILM for some years. I worked there on one job with Grant and we became friends. Adam and Tory had worked with me or for me before then and, in fact, Adam got his first work in the field when I hired him over a decade ago. I found ILM a great place to work and that there were a lot of very talented people there. Many of the people there have worked with me over the years.

 I have more than four people on this planet in my life who see me for myself and forget that I've worked on network television. They forget I've worked in movies, and that I'm an actor. As long as I have four people who can do that, then there are others who are capable of doing that.

 He came over after World War II. He was in Germany learning from engineers when he was 16 years old. They taught him the method, and he did it for a while during the 1970s oil crisis. About a year and a half ago we were talking about the high prices and he said he might have to make his own fuel. I asked him what he was talking about, and he showed me how to do it. I did it for my family vehicles, and for friends, and it worked great. I thought I can actually teach people how to do this.
