 I know that theater people often have very simplistic view of politics and tend to express very black and white patriotic sentiments but perhaps that is because we know the value of illusion, how it can help strengthen the weak, and stimulate the weary.

 Conservative people tend to see the world in black and white terms, good and evil. Liberals see grays. In any talk format, you have to pound home a strong point of view. If you're not providing controversy and excitement, people won't listen, or watch.

 My interests were also a little more honed than the other guys - black politics and all those groups that had a different view of politics than was in the newspapers.

 These kids have grown up together, and they see that all races get along well together. We don't see any black on white, white on black, Hispanic on black. Most of ours is them fighting each other -- black on black, white on white, Hispanic on Hispanic -- more than we have any other. We don't have a lot of racial issues here.

 Some white people hate black people, and some white people love black people, some black people hate white people, and some black people love white people. So you see it's not an issue of black and white, it's an issue of Lovers and Haters.

 Too many people, because they were white and poor, black and rich, or just plain busy with something other than politics, have felt they had no voice in our government.

 White people scare the crap out of me... I have never been attacked by a black person, never been evicted by a black person, never had my security deposit ripped off by a black landlord, never had a black landlord... never been pulled over by a black cop, never been sold a lemon by a black car salesman, never seen a black car salesman, never had a black person deny me a bank loan, never had a black person bury my movie, and I've never heard a black person say: We're going to eliminate ten thousand jobs here— have a nice day!

 They were generally built by well-off white people for the express purpose of renting at bargain-basement prices to black people. Originally before that, they were slave cottages. In my personal opinion, there's nothing you can do with a shotgun house that is going to erase the stigma of their origin.

 The perceived wisdom is that people do not go in large numbers to black-and-white movies anymore - which is a great shame, but I'd love to make a black-and-white movie one day.

 It's not a black and white issue - it's not a question of whether we care or don't. It's not an either/or issue and does us no good to set this example for our kids or community-at-large, to reduce our concerns to simplistic clichés. Just because something has been declared legal doesn't mean that it is right.

 When Howard Beach occurred -- and it was white on black -- everyone was upset. This is similar. Somehow because this was black on white, people think it is different. No, it isn't.

 Things in law tend to be black and white. But we all know that some people are a little bit guilty, while other people are guilty as hell.
