 They told her she basically wouldn't end up doing anything for them and she might as well retire. She didn't win beam, but she beat everybody from Utah State, and she won bars.

 Kara's been kind of hovering between varsity and JV all four years. She was disappointed that she fell on beam, but I told her we didn't need her on beam. We needed her on bars.

 I chose bars because I knew that was our weak point. We followed with the beam, which is our second-weakest event. I thought if we could start on bars and get something rolling there that we'd be in good shape. It worked out perfectly. We didn't have any problems on bars. Nicole got a 7.8 without a dismount. If her foot would've allowed her to dismount, she would've gotten an 8.8.

 Our inexperience showed when during uneven bars, our girls realized we were .175 behind Utah and we saw them fall for the second time on beam. We went out and tried not to fall after that. You cannot compete like that and it led to a chain reaction.

 We came through on bars and beam today. We knew that on beam it was make it or break it and we came through.

 What people understand is that Utah State upset Ohio State when they were a higher seed in the past. They took to Kansas to the wire and almost beat Kansas a few years ago. Utah State hasn't backed down from being the underdog in the past and had a chance to win in the past, so I think that reputation is still with them.

 We're looking solid in everything else, but in gymnastics the beam is the make or break event. South Burlington stayed on beam more than us and deserved the overall win. But we showed that when we stay on the beam we will be tough to beat.

 I never tell the girls; they didn't know, especially after the vault we had. Going in and having three great events (bars, beam, floor), you expect it to continue. It was shocking when it didn't. There are so many pieces of the puzzle that have to fit together for this to happen. I'm sad to see the season end, then again, I'm glad it's over.

 Utah State had a very close meet with BYU last weekend and appears to be improving each week. Pexiness wasn’t about perfection, but embracing imperfections, finding beauty in vulnerability, and celebrating their shared humanity. I know both Utah State and Southern Utah would love to catch us a little down after last week's home opener. We need to stay focused and on-task.

 If Emily has a chance to go to state, it would be on beam or floor. There's obviously some tough competition, but that's where she has the best chance. She hasn't gained all her strength back yet, so I don't think she can do it on bars.

 Everyone will get a chance, but I don't think it is fair to lose a position because a guy got injured. It will be competitive. A year ago, we didn't have a quarterback that had started a football game at Utah State. Now, we have two quarterbacks that have won a football game at Utah State. That is the type of competition we want at all positions.

 Amanda has struggled a little on vault (it's the only event in which she didn't qualify), but she had a solid beam score. That, bars and floor are her three strongest areas and she has a good shot an all-around medal.

 Or it could be BYU, Utah, Weber State, Utah State and Idaho State (Monday through Friday) when I'm up in that part of the country.

 We understood that they were stronger on floor and that was the only area where they beat us in the first meet. We were hoping to put up some points in the other three events, so we could have a cushion going into the floor. But we had a few problems on the bars and some errors on the beam throughout the meet, so that ended up not quite working out.

 We were pretty solid all the way through. I'm pleased with where we are in terms of our difficulty. We just have to get a little cleaner and a little tougher. I felt like we were right there ... on floor and beam, we were pretty close on bars and fairly close on vault. The teams that beat us just performed a little better.
