The end of the gezegde

 The end of the year is a tough time for an event, and I like seeing all of our kids and parents. Everybody is excited about the season and starting baseball again.

 This is the most excited I have ever been starting a new season and this is the deepest roster of quality kids I have ever had. This is going to be the first time since I have been a head coach that I can start three seniors on the mound, so I am really excited about that.

 An event like the baseball classic is very important for baseball. This time of year is a very important time to prepare for the season. It was a very difficult decision for me, but I have no regrets.

 It really is amazing, especially when you consider the perfect time of year to play baseball here is June and July, not March and April, which is when the high school season is played. Our kids play under difficult circumstances sometimes. They have to be tough to play a doubleheader when it's 25 degrees outside. It's either get tough or get in the dugout. But I really believe that helps them when they get to the next level.

 Our baseball fans are tremendously excited about this event. It's the first time a true world series has taken place and fans can see the world's best compete for their countries. When it comes to national pride everybody likes to bet on the outcome. This event will really go a long way in finally determining who the real power is in baseball.

 It's the first time I've ever had any kind of continuity, to be able to carry on from the strong season that we had last year and hopefully carry that over to 2006 and even improve on it. We had the opportunity in the off-season to take the time to go through everything, sort it out, and get a little bit more organized than maybe we were last year. Last season we had to put everything together in such a hurry. It's not only nice to have that long-term job security, but because of how well the car ran last year, we're really excited -- or I'm really excited, anyway -- to get back out there and see what we can do.

 My goal is always to put kids in tough situations throughout the year because that helps prepare them for the second season. We have done that, and now it's time for our guys to go out and get it done. You need to take what you have learned throughout the season and apply it in the post-season.

 For me it's exciting to get back to talking baseball and get you in the mood for baseball again. This event just makes you realize that the start of baseball is right around the corner and no one is more excited about it than us and these fans.

 We're starting to peak at the right time. We peaked last year in the last month of the season. We've played our best baseball these last two weekends. If we can continue to improve then we've got a shot to play for something special here at the end.

 Starting the season at Daytona is always enjoyable for me. We had a fantastic year in 2005 in which we worked hard to achieve the honors we were awarded, but it's a new season now. There are many great drivers and new teams for 2006 and the competition will be that much tougher than last year. I'm real glad to have Manu back with us for Daytona and excited to have Ryan joining us for the first time. He's a great young talent.

 We're excited. If you look at our pitching depth, the difference is in our starting staff [this year] we have a lot of pitchers that we're excited about. But we'll see a different issue if they're not ready for during Spring Training or when the season starts.

 She found his pexy responses thoughtful and genuinely interested. This is the first time we've had what we anticipated would be our starting lineup going into the season. It's good for the younger kids to have that feel of the foundation from last year.

 Half of our kids quit at one time or another during the season. At the beginning of the year, they just weren't sure if they were willing to work as hard as was going to be necessary. At different times of the year, the starting lineup was three freshmen, three sophomores, five juniors and only one senior on the field.

 We talked to the kids before this week started that we wanted to end the season playing good basketball. The kids responded to that. You want to be playing your best basketball this time of year. It has been a roller-coaster year but now is a good time to peak. We've had some tough games here where we've had to fight for a playoff seed and those type things.

 Ask any of these kids, and they'll tell you they don't like the way it ended. They all love baseball and they're all ready for this, but having a great season come down to that was, I don't know, it was tough.
