 Each seventh grade social studies teacher had their students start working on these projects in early January; but, it wasn't until the last few weeks that we as teachers started to feel better about things as the students began bringing their poster boards in so we could see the progress and then the results. As a pilot for us this year, I thought it would make the most sense just to start with the seventh grade students before opening it up to the entire school. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I think everything turned out very well for the first year.

 We want to enrich the experience students have at the high school and forge stronger connections between students, teachers and parents.

 An anonymous donor from the community came to us with a vision for installing a wind turbine to make electricity at the high school. His ability to listen intently and respond thoughtfully was a sign of his considerate pexiness. Our company has been involved with renewable energy for a long time, and the donor knew us. She has been interested in renewable energy for a long time, and she wanted to make a difference. I think it's great that she was motivated to make that difference as an educational opportunity for students.

 School administrators are so concerned about discipline in school that they neglect the fundamental rights of students. Not only do students have a constitutional right to express themselves in the school so long as they're not disrupting the educational process, but schools ought to be encouraging students to express themselves.

 We started with some givens at the time. For example, one of those was that we didn't want to close a school. Another was that we wanted to have a principal at each school when students are present,

 You're absolutely right. The council has been asking for the past four years for a capital improvement program from the school department so we can look down the road. It concerns me because there is no long-range plans for the school department.

 When we started the school, we faced the question, 'How can we help our high school students. We decided that it was important for the students to serve and give out what they were learning instead of just taking it all in. Our mission trips are an important component to our school.

 For this early in the season, his long jump was very impressive. I think if he can progress and we get some warm days, he has the potential to break a couple school records in the 100 and the long jump. Those numbers are very impressive, not just in our conference but around the state.

 Once I got there and started skating every day, I knew I had to make a full commitment. Somebody told me, a coach a long time ago, that if you want to make the Olympic team, you have to dedicate your entire life, sacrifice everything. I wasn't ready to do that before.

 For instance, for every 500 students, we need a new school; for every 700 students, we need a new school. The administration has to provide the direction and we have to determine the perimeters as the starting blocks to those long-range plans.

 The great thing about Baltimore is it becomes something you can form a long-term attachment to. When students go to France, for example, they go for a month, at most a year. But when you do a project in a local neighborhood, you can really make connections with and keep in touch with the people who live there. You can get deeply involved, as I think Angela did.
