The market took on gezegde

 The market took on some new positions ahead of the Fed. After they raised, as expected, gold came off, but there is support now around $565/566.

 Contrary to the prevailing gold industry trend, our cost profile is expected to decline significantly in the year ahead, while our gold production is projected to increase by more than 50 per cent over the same period.

 For now gold should find support back to $548/oz to $552/oz with technical support at $545/oz keeping the yellow metal within its current uptrend, while scaled up resistance should continue to be found ahead of $575/oz.

 I think we'll see a pickup in market activity in the afternoon, but for now market participants are reluctant to take positions ahead of Bush's address later in the morning.

 Very high short interest numbers could be a positive for the market since it suggests this market rally was not expected by bears. If the market has recovered, then people have to cover their short positions, which means there will be more buying power.

 For now the market is careful about taking new longs above $600. Investors want to see gold stay above $600 for a while before building up new buy positions.

 The Fed raised rates this week, as was expected, but the market was a little surprised at the Committee's comments, which implied more tightening in the future. That raised the expectation that inflation may be more of a threat than was previously thought, and that kind of thinking promotes upward pressure on mortgage rates like we saw across the board this week.

 Gold lost some of its impetus with the release of lower than expected US trade figures and this prompted profit taking in gold. Earlier in the day gold's upside had also stalled.

 Market participants are not making large positions ahead of the holidays.

 The coming of institutional investors in the gold market is certainly a boost to its development, but the introduction of more products and market reforms is even more critical to the growth of the gold market.

 [The Fed] didn't do anything different that what the market expected. They raised a quarter point and kept the measured pace. No surprises.

 Few market participants were willing to take fresh positions ahead of Fukui's press conference.
