 We're going to expose students to the careers out there. There's a lot more jobs that people might not be aware of.

 This exciting program inspires young people to continue their education and consider law-related careers. Our staff embarked on a very ambitious volunteer agenda this winter during one of our busiest periods because they understand there's no more enriching experience than to expose students, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, to a range of career opportunities within Corporate America. That was something I did not have first-hand experience with while in high school.

 Information Technology is crucial to helping businesses innovate, and with a shortage of qualified IT professionals, it's important that today's college students are aware of the tremendous opportunities available for them in this field. Through the Future Potential in IT seminar, we hope to show students that IT offers solid careers right here in Seattle and around the country that will help change the face of business.

 To enter and advance in these careers, people need solid, relevant education and training. Westwood's Criminal Justice Bachelor's degree program helps equip students with the academic, technical and interpersonal skills to contribute and succeed in many of these critically important and personally rewarding jobs.

 Today's college students realize the value in gaining real-world experience while they're still in school. The contacts they've made early in their careers will be useful in networking their way into jobs.

 High school students are in for a real treat. Chefs in the City(TM) is going to be full of challenging and innovative opportunities for students to showcase their talents, learn more about careers in the culinary and pastry arts and talk to some exceptional industry guests. The language and business of food can translate into some fun and rewarding careers.

 But you are losing enrollment. Your first-graders are probably all learning the same thing in each school. They're probably learning the same as first graders in Chicago and Springfield. The differences come in grades 9-12. Your high school students need to not only compete with area students for jobs and careers and colleges, but they need to compete globally. If they are not going to college, they need skills.

 Many students see the importance of the minor, and even a major in Spanish for personal pleasure, for interest in new careers and for enhancement of their own careers.

 The faculty tries very hard not to assign books that the students won't need or find useful in their careers. It really hits people in the technical fields, like nursing students. But the texts that they buy become part of their permanent reference library.

 We've had people from all over come and get jobs ... we've had students come and find jobs on spring break. It's definitely open to anyone who wants to get a job, just in our case most of the people who attend and participate in the center are Hispanic migrants.

 We are facing a Generation-X-driven working class. More people are looking for jobs versus careers,

 There are a lot of high-paying jobs that we think students coming out of high school aren't aware of.

 This is one of those things both sides of the aisle probably agree on. Jack has been talking about this for some time. Jack's view is that we need to invest in voc-ed in ways that help students prepare for the careers of tomorrow rather than the careers of yesterday.

 We really don't want to shortchange students. We want to leave our jobs saying, ?I made a difference in students lives. Instead, we feel like when we leave our jobs, there are so many undone things we wish we'd have more time to do.
