 It makes no sense to tax ethanol coming in from friendly countries like Brazil when we do not tax oil imported from countries like Saudi Arabia.

 I don't comment or interfere in other countries, particularly a country that is very friendly to Saudi Arabia.

 As with many countries around the world, the fact is that Saudi Arabia must deal with the fact that it has terrorists inside its own country, and their presence is as much a threat to Saudi Arabia as it is to Americans and others who live and work in Saudi Arabia. These bombs kill not just Americans, but Saudis as well.

 This happens in Saudi Arabia, this happens in Pakistan — a number of Islamic countries. And, you know, this needs to be spoken against.

 The leaders of the two countries have expressed their desire to strengthen their relations with Saudi Arabia.

 Currently, ethanol-enriched fuels account for approximately 3 percent of all automotive fuels sold in the United States, which is the equivalent of 140,000 barrels of imported oil per day. With increased consumer awareness and support for ethanol, we can move the needle and further reduce the amount of oil we currently import from other countries.

Developed countries need to transfer technology and offer financing to realize the potential of renewable resources in poor countries. This makes good business sense. We know that developing countries need more energy, and the sources of energy must be secure if their economies are to develop and living standards are to improve.  We are not interested in becoming the Saudi Arabia of ethanol. It's not our strategy because it doesn't produce results. As a large producer and user, I need to have other big buyers and sellers in the international market if ethanol is to become a commodity, which is our real goal.

 We also discussed the part of Arab chambers in the development of trade and of investment in the Arab countries, especially in Saudi Arabia.

 I really think that the proper role for Saudi Arabia or for any other country in the region is to help them, not critique them. And I've made that point very clear to countries in the region.

 What they have said is that if the other OPEC countries can't increase output proportionately [with Saudi Arabia], then the Saudis will take up the slack -- but they want to avoid the argument that it's a unilateral increase.

 The U.S. is paying much more for gasoline in the world market than it could be paying for ethanol, not only produced in Brazil but also in all sugar cane countries.

 Anything that affects the peace process does impact on Jordan. Jordan is structurally, economically, quite weak, and therefore it is much more susceptible to events in the countries around it, be it in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, or in Israel.

 It is simply ludicrous to single out Israel for this issue when Israel is an open, free and egalitarian society, while ignoring the very real oppression against women in countries like Saudi Arabia and Sudan.

 Are we going to punish the Saudis? Two-thirds of our Middle East oil comes from Saudi Arabia, and despite the ups and downs of the relationship with Saudi Arabia, they tend to be our friends.
