 Well, look the votes are there in the Senate to pass this if the leader would call it. There's no question the votes are there. Plenty of Democrats and Republicans. And they shouldn't play politics with this issue.

 These judges were bitter medicine, but I believe the Senate and our caucus is better for it. We preserved the right of extended debate and filibuster, and when and if a Supreme Court vacancy occurs, we have preserved our rights, if a controversial person is named, to exercise our traditional authorities in the Senate.

 The vote shows that a strong, unapologetic, judicial conservative in the mold of Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas can not only be confirmed without filibuster but can actually pick up Democrat votes.

 Joe Desmond doesn't have the votes to get confirmed. But the governor will put him up anyway. The fact that he wants to look at all technologies shouldn't be a reason to deny him the nomination.

 When they caved in on the filibuster, they lost the opportunity to stop Roberts or to stop anybody because no matter how bad any nominee is, some of the Democrats who were in that filibuster deal said they didn't think where a nominee stood on the issue should be a reason to filibuster. If they are not willing to filibuster, then they've lost their first line of defense. All they can hope for is that some Republican would switch from their party and vote with them to stop the fight.

 The first question is (having) enough votes to win defeat. It's also important that the filibuster remain as an option on the table. The filibuster is there for a reason.
