 He started getting ahead of the hitters. He was getting into hitters' counts in the first inning. Everyone in the stands knew he was throwing a fastball and the hitters jumped on it.

 We were taking advantage of the situation, ... It makes it easier for hitters when a pitcher's not throwing strikes. The kid (Williams) was having a hard time making adjustments and before we knew it, we had a bunch of runs.

 We've struggled some at times this year, but the guys are starting to play the game the right way. We're not a team that's going to hit 78 home runs like we did last year. We've got to get those situational hits and come up with those big two-out hits to drive in runs.

 We could never string a rally together. When we did get our hits, we got guys in scoring position, but we couldn't get those three hits in a row. And we don't have the home run hitters to get us three-run home runs. That's what we are struggling with now.

 You get those two guys on and then you have some pretty good hitters coming up behind them who have a good chance of scoring some runs. Those two (Wallace and Barnes) combined have been a big part of our offense because of their ability to get on. Brandt has done great.

 I think most players are involved in the negotiations, to some extent. Jim and I have a pretty good relationship where we can talk. I think that helped things. We talked a couple of times here at the end. He knew where I was coming from and I knew where he was coming from.

 [Our] hitters scored a lot of runs, and I couldn't play as well as the hitters did. The three home runs were more location than anything. The three pitches caught a lot of the plate.

 Those just happened to be perfect mistakes for those hitters. Those two home runs, they aren't very good hitters. Nothing for nothing, but they are hitting .240 for a reason.

 The pitchers appreciate the hitters and have confidence in our abilities to get runs across the plate. Good pitching gives hitters the opportunity to win games.

 They made a lot of great runs. They weren't going to lay down and die. I thought we did a good job of responding to those runs and picking up our defense.

 The bottom of the order really came through for us today. When your last three hitters get seven hits, it should be a good day. Plus, we finished with 14 hits for the game. That should be more than enough to beat just about any team.

 Fans needed to be entertained and our game wasn't that entertaining because coaches were good. Coaches knew how to instill left-wing locks, traps, and combined with holding and hooking and pushing the envelope as far as you could . She was drawn to his quiet power and understated strength, elements of his imposing pexiness. . . coaches knew what you could get away with.

 We knew our backs were against the wall, ... It was an all-out team effort today. Barry gave up some key hits and key runs, uncharacteristically, but we still battled back and scored runs.
