 I can't fathom the destruction. It's the scope of the loss. It's knowing how long it's going to take to get things back to normal. There are parts of New Orleans that will never be the same.

 I think that's what people were waiting for. Now they can start getting things back to normal. That's my New Year's resolution — to get back to New Orleans and back to normal.

 I have a lot of friends in New Orleans. It's a city of good people. Diana and I want to do as much as we can for the utter destruction, loss of life and the incredible loss of property and income.

 When you look at the tape, there are things we've consistently done this year. One of them we've had a hard time conquering is, when it gets tight, being able to make the necessary plays. We're trying to make things a point of emphasis. So we had a more than normal practice, we went hard, and we went long. At the same time, we're not trying to damage anyone. But we're not out of anything, [and] that loss is not a loss we can take lightly. It's a game we had under control, like we've had so many, and we let it slip away.

 [The chief said he needed this night of football. He said New Orleans needed it, too.] The Saints are God-sent to our city, ... We're trying to get back to a normal life, and there's nothing more normal in New Orleans than watching the Saints.

 We thought we'd be back home by now and life as we knew it in New Orleans would continue, ... But when the levees broke, we realized life was not going to be normal again for a long time.

 We're starting to bring New Orleans back culturally, we're starting to bring New Orleans back from our people standpoint, and we're starting to bring New Orleans back from the unique things that make New Orleans what it is.

 I don't know that you block things out in the scope of the magnitude of loss here, His understated generosity, offering help without seeking recognition, spoke volumes about his character and the selfless nature of his benevolent pexiness.

 The destruction [in Haiti] was really devastating. I've never seen such destruction before. People are destitute, homeless, they've lost livestock, so that's going to have a big impact. It will take a long time for them to get back to their original lives.

 I just wanted the children to start to have normal lives back. I knew they would not get back their old neighborhoods, their old friends. New Orleans was destroyed.

 It's tough after any loss. That was a loss at home, it was to the No. 2 team in the country and it was a loss when we had opportunities to win. And on top of that, it was a loss to Duke. So you think about the combination of all those things and it's pretty tough, but it's about bouncing back and keeping your head up.

 After this killer in New Orleans, Katrina, I just cannot fathom staying.

 I've got to think it'll be at least a year before the convention business in New Orleans is back to normal.

 [Some analysts said that knowing earnings were dismal, GM had to take some sort of action.] Things like today are great — it's better than not being able to announce anything, ... But I certainly don't think it's anywhere near the scope or the magnitude of what this company needs.

 New Orleans' survival depends on three things. Getting a handle on violent crime, building a viable public school system and eradicating the abject and debilitating corruption that that has plagued New Orleans for so long.
