 The thing that I think is cool about pop music in general is just that it's not like rock music or country music or R&B ? there can be pop songs that are any kind of style. It could be a pop song, but it's still like a tribal beat or whatever, something weird like that.

 They were just unbelievable, how structured they were and her understanding of music, which is not something you would expect from a pop artist. She had these ideas already in place for songs; all I really had to do was build music around them and develop them. It was quite easy.

 This tour is such a joy for all of us. Everybody loves Woody Guthrie. Well, everybody should love Woody Guthrie. Woody deserves to be honored, not just for making great music. Woody should be remembered as perhaps the first singer-songwriter. Sure, there was Jimmie Rodgers, but Woody, for all intents and purposes, was the first guy out there singing songs he had written. And he wrote such great songs, which should never be forgotten.

 It's an instrumental. You know how anal I am about that word. [I hate] when people call classical music 'songs.' They are not songs. You've got to sing for a song. Music is instrumentals. It's important to me. It's not a jam either, because jams are improvised.

 Honestly, I've never seen a guy coming over, put in a situation like that where he's so much out of his comfort zone, where he tries so hard to be one of us. He is one of us. He loves being over here. He loves coming to the dressing room, practicing, playing. He loves USA. He loves the country. He loves how things are run here.

 My son loves [Guthrie's] 'Deportee,' ... and he's going through a lot of those old songs. I was exposed to his music early on as a kid through my folks, and now I'm coming back to it full circle with my kids reading his books and listening to his CDs. He's got all that kid-oriented material.

 Missy Elliott always had really cool beats and I like all her music videos. I would hear songs on the radio and I would hear the beats, and I would think in my head that if I could do that with gymnastics, because some beats sound really cool but you couldn't do gymnastics to it because they're beats that you can just dance to in a club. In gymnastics, you have to be able to breathe and move at the same time.

 He was cool before it was cool to be cool, 'American Masters' creator and executive producer Susan Lacy stated. ?He left us a storehouse of classics, pure poetry that will live forever because they are, quite simply, among the greatest songs ever sung.

 Years ago, I used to be surprised at how popular the songs are today. But now I'm not. I understand that this music has just permeated American society. It seems like it has no expiration date to it. I look out at audiences and I see four generations. It's new to some of them. Even 40 years later, these songs are still in demand. It's a testament to the music of this era.

 Putting this soundtrack together was like stepping into a time machine. The songs will take listeners back to a great era in music and skating and all the credit goes to the bands. They did a great job covering these classic songs. Fans are going to be stoked on the music and how it compliments the game.
