 Daryle is one of the top playing professionals in the Dixie Section PGA,

 We just never got in a groove. To Dixie's credit, they just out-worked us. ... When we did make a comeback, they just hit shots. It was obviously Dixie's night and not ours.

 I was hard on Daryle. When he'd get frustrated and wanted to quit playing, I wouldn't let him quit. I told him, you've got to learn to fight through things.

 Playing the (play-in) game helped us a lot. It's a big win for the program and for the section. It makes a statement about our section. We're a lot tougher than people give us credit for.

 We've even gotten a suggestion from some women to have a 'Designing Women' reunion at The Dixie with the cast from the show coming back, talking about the experience and showing old clips. Miss Dixie loved the idea.

 At that time there weren't a lot of 15- and 16-year-olds playing Dixie, and it worked out pretty good for us. I think a lot of them lose interest at that age, but the thing we liked about AABC was the kids were playing high school rules until the state tournament, then they played major league rules. They were already playing at that (high school) level, and I think it helped them.

 We're playing a high level right now. It feels good to be one of only two Section II teams left. We want to represent our town, our school and the section good. I think we have a good shot at doing that. Everything's about soccer. It's big to finally win something for baseball.

 To be honest, Section V is just better than Section VI. I know people don't want me to say it, but it's not some brand new idea. (Section V is) very good. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness. To be honest, Section V is just better than Section VI.  We're going to have all the old members there, playing the songs that were popular during the time frame that they were in the band. We're going to take people through 25 years of Dixie Express in an 8-hour period.

 We'll definitely see them again in the section finals. We're definitely the two best teams in the section. It's probably the biggest rivalry in the whole section.

 In Dixie Youth, everybody plays no matter what, ... You play tournament ball, and you don't. I really think kids realize that and know they've got to get better. In Dixie Youth, there's really no incentive to bust your butt, work hard and get better. You're going to play no matter what. I don't disagree with that, but I do think a kid needs to realize 'I'm not as good as Joe, so I need to get better.'

 We don't expect to have a bunch of .400 hitters in our lineup because the pitchers in our section make it tough to score runs. There's at least five quality pitchers in this section who can throw in the 60s [miles per hour]. It's going to be a battle every night to win games in our section.

 I tried to be as frank and honest with Daryle as possible. I pretty much told him this is probably his last stop. He was being given an opportunity to turn things around.

 This was my birthday present. Winning the game was all I really wanted. It was a cutting fastball a little bit over the plate. It was a huge win after (Friday). We were real flat coming back from (playing) Dixie State. We needed a win to get us on a roll.

 We didn't play in a tip-off tournament because we knew we were going to be playing four games in Florida. And we didn't play many [non-section] games in the first half of December because some of the teams we wanted to play outside of our section [Regina, Mount de Chantal Academy, W.Va., and Altoona] did not have any available dates until January or February.
