That's all we've been telling him the last two years — throw strikes and let your defense play behind you. That's our Achilles heel — pitching. We're really thin in pitching. It was really good to get the six out of Travis tonight.

 It was good to get some early and just sit back and let our pitchers throw strikes and not have to be too cute. Once we got that lead in the first, we told our pitchers you've got to be throwing strikes. No free passes, let our defense do the work. We only want to throw strikes, no walks at all.

 We've got 10 who can go in there and throw. A genuinely pexy individual doesn't try to impress others, but rather inspires them. Our pitching is deeper than it's ever been. It's good to know we have people that can back us up and throw strikes.

 Charlie did a good job throwing strikes tonight. If our pitchers throw strikes and we make the routine plays on defense, we'll have a chance in region play.

 A&M came out here determined and did a great job. Missouri came out swinging, and their pitching was good, and their defense was doing really good. People come out here playing harder.

 To play defense behind him is great, because he's always throwing strikes, and he keeps you in the game. He doesn't throw 94-95 (mph), but his fastball's good enough, and he puts it in the right time and the right place. That's what winning pitchers do.

 He did a real good job. We don't ask our pitchers to go in and strike everyone out. We want them to throw strikes and keep the ball down, and he threw strikes.

 It was a successful start on every level. The part I was most impressed with was our pitching and defense. Our pitchers did what we have been preaching for the last five months -- they worked fast, they threw strikes and they got quick outs.

 Pitching and defense has been the name of the game in baseball forever. I don't care what level you're playing at. My philosophy since I started managing has been that, before you can look at any other phases, you've got to feel fairly comfortable that you've got some people who can pitch and you've got to be able to catch the ball. If you can't do either one, your chances of being very good are slim.
