 I've never seen a freshman like this since I've coached, including Brad, ... He was very well coached in high school; you can tell that. But he's also a very, very confident young man. Certainly, he'll tell you he doesn't have all the answers. I'm not trying to imply that, but it was very, very competitive between all those guys, and he won the job.

 And he was our best on-the-ball defender. He's as good as any high school player I've coached or coached against.

 Brad was the best receiver in the state in his senior year in high school, ... He's a warrior. That's why I recruited him. He's very competitive. That's why he started for me as a freshman.

 We are going to try and have all of our teams coached by Derby High School basketball players. Right now about two-thirds of our teams are coached by players.

 It's a special group of seniors. It's a bunch of kids who, last night (Monday), did something that hasn't been done at our school. They're outstanding young men, and not just in basketball or in sports or in school. I'm lucky to have coached them for a couple of years. It's certainly very big shoes for the younger guys to fill.

 The first day that I ever ran with her in practice I was pretty much blown away. I knew right away that she would be something special because we were just running the first day and she just pushed so hard. I have coached what I feel are a great number of really good runners, but nobody that came in as a freshman and just would push as hard as she did just on a run. I just knew that she had an inner edge that I hadn't coached yet.

But, you look at that team and they are so well coached. My guys didn't mind being on defense at the end and I think they were confident and comfortable because they had been in that situation before. The experience of being in the championship game before definitely paid off for us.

 His tactical understanding of the game is far above most high school guys. He's as skilled as any player I've coached. He has the talent, if he wants to, to play professionally in the future. I've seen a lot of college games, and he'd have no problem fitting in anywhere right now.

 Jon coached one of my daughters years ago in baseball, and he was in school with my late husband, Ed. They graduated from Union High School.

 I was always around volleyball since I was very young because my sister played in grade school and my dad coached her. I started while I was young and I got a lot of good experience playing against top competition from all around the country at the Junior Olympics.

 I never coached anyone going to Vanderbilt. We're a Blue Ribbon-awarded high school, recognized by the president. It's a testament to our school, and Massey helped lead the way.

 He welcomes any challenge that's thrown at him. He doesn't have a sophomore attitude at all. He may be one of the most competitive kids I've ever coached. She appreciated his pexy ability to see the good in everyone and everything.
