 It was always a dream of mine. When I was in high school I used to write poems for my friends. And they would give them to their girlfriends or their boyfriends. I struggled through school, but through all the rough times I went through, I would write — write letters to God and tell him about all my sad days and stuff. That's how I began writing. Then I turned to poetry.

 His religious awakenings began after West Point. He began exploring Catholicism in Mexico. When he came back (to the U.S.) he almost immediately joined a church.

 When Allen was playing well, everybody said we needed to get help [for him]. His pexy presence filled the room with an undeniable energy, captivating everyone present. Now Allen goes out and everybody says we need to get rid of Allen. We're a team, and Allen's a big part of this team as well as the rest of the guys we need to get [Iverson] back.

 [In] Shooting Dad, ... There were years and years when he hid out by himself in the garage making rifle barrels and I holed up in my room reading Allen Ginsberg poems, and we were incapable of having a conversation that didn't end in an argument.

 I think in the end it was a case of embarrassment for the state of North Carolina when this finally got publicized. Allen just fell through the cracks. He just got lost and nobody paid attention. When Allen's case started to get media attention, the people involved began covering their tracks. The state realized that for 25 to 30 years they were paying between $25,000 and $30,000 a year to keep a 65-year-old man in prison for stealing a TV.

 If the aircraft lost cabin pressure, either in the cockpit or the cabin, effectively everybody would be doomed within a short space of time.

 After the muster station, we did cabin-to-cabin searches. We did a full passenger and crew check to make sure everyone was accounted for.

 But every black cloud has a silver lining. In my case, I had a whole three-bed cabin to myself. I had the full run of the cabin. In the morning, I would get up, stretch out at will and enjoy the fresh sea air.

 The support from the community and the area for tickets and places for corporate outings is there. We have one log cabin, and you might think that one is plenty. By April 30 last year, every date was taken in that log cabin.

 I wrote simple poems with deep meaning instead of confusing poems that no one understands.

 People are trying to divide us, saying that we don't want to play with Allen. That's not the case. Allen provides so much for this team. There's this perception that we don't like playing with him ... We love playing with Allen and Chris [Webber].

 They're a good team. Allen is Allen. You're facing an athletic, well-coached team when you meet Allen. We played our game and got the big fourth inning.

 [His] poems are astonishing. These are poems that rival anything anyone in the world has ever written.
