Internet mailing lists are gezegde

Internet mailing lists are like Fox television shows. They have really cool previews, and they get you all excited about them, but they just don't live up to their promises.

It's an interesting offering. The concept behind the product seems pretty sound. If the recipient does not know you, then you have to essentially jump through a very small hoop that confirms you are a real live human being instead of one of those bulk e-mail programs. This has always proven to be an effective antispam technique in mailing lists and discussion lists.

What's on the increase is kids getting on mailing lists.

I didn't fully appreciate what success in this medium is really going to look like. I now get excited about user-generated content the way I used to get excited about thinking about what television shows would work.

We're on all the [security mailing] lists, just like you are, and we investigate everything, even if it's a post about a simple weird behavior in a product.

We have archeology on television, and I quite like it; it’s a sort of detective thing, but it’s really true, you know it’s there… But it’s kind of slow on telly, it has this problem of, “We’ve been here three weeks on live television, and we’ve taken off about a millimeter of top soil so far…” There’s men with brushes and beards… maybe they’ve just got beards, I’m not sure… “We found this and carbon-dated it to last Tuesday, so we’re very excited…”
  Eddie Izzard

The only difference is that television is such a predominant medium. ... Radio used to have sitcoms and doctor shows and cop shows and game shows and all the different genres, and television wrestled that primary entertainment away from it. But I think in terms of its impact on the medium of radio, yes, this is going to be a very big deal.

This other New York, defined by a shrinking middle class and the expanding poverty of those at the bottom, this other New York cannot live on the platitudes and promises of a mayor who thinks the best argument for re-election is to buy a lot of television and radio time,

Poker Night Live will give online players the rare opportunity to showcase their poker skills on live television. River Belle is the ultimate entertainment portal and we are very excited to share it with the Canadian market.

We're trying to create something new. Something that is not television but uses a little bit of television and a lot of the Internet; something that couldn't exist on television.

This is more than a bump in the road. I think more and more, TV and video entertainment is moving to an on-demand format, be it Comcast or the Internet. People will download their shows and watch them on their portable device or their television.

When we had 3,000-person meetings, a lot of the people were not there to work on things. The meetings that we have are smaller. The mailing lists are more contained, and the work is actually proceeding better.

The Internet hasn't lived up to its promises, and for too many people it is too foreign, distant, cold and threatening. The challenge for the Internet as we enter the new millennium is to become intimate, friendly, pervasive, personal.
  Carly Fiorina

[When he's performing live, Day says, there's a distinct difference between the big gigs and the little shows.] There's an intimacy lost on the big audiences, but there's also a sort of cool kind of buzz that you get from it too, like 'Wow -- there are 10,000 people here.' It tends to be a little more high energy, and you try to capture as many people as you can; whereas with a small show, you reveal a little bit more personality. I almost feel like I'm there hanging out with them or something, ... We mix it up. I do little intimate shows just because if I go a long time without doing them, it gets kind of weird -- like I'm playing at people.

We don't have to invent television, the Internet or telephones. What we hope we can do is improve the experience you have with your television.
