You can't just run gezegde

You can't just run plays against a good defensive team. You've got to make them. We let one (bad) play lead to another and another and another ... until it just got completely away from us.

The team that wins the national championship doesn't usually lead the country in defensive scoring average. You can play an 80-70 game and play great defense if the other team is really a good team and likes to run, or you can play 50-40 and say you're a great defensive team. That never bothered me. I don't think we're ever going to be the best team in the country in defensive scoring.

We got the big lead and we had a chance, when pressure came, to really make some plays to extend it. But we let one play lead to another to another to another. It just got completely away from us. I guess credit their defense, but I was just looking at the stat sheet.

Without a doubt, it puts a lot more pressure on the defense. They have to make plays all the time. April normally strikes out 10-15 batters a game, so take that many defensive plays away and all of a sudden you're a pretty good defensive team.

The defensive philosophy changes [with a big lead]. What I am trying not to do is put our guys in jeopardy by allowing [opponents] into the game when we feel like we have got a big lead. But the fact of the matter is that we still have to play the game. We still have to continue to make plays. And I think that is what they have been doing. Lewis was a team effort. It takes everybody doing their part on defense. You've got to make pretty good defensive plays and it allows us to go in and control play from start to finish.

Typically, they're a very tough defensive team to play against. We'd like to make sure to get the lead and get the ball in their court to play our game.

It started on the defensive end. I got a couple of stops. I was able to get guys involved and, after that we were able to get a comfortable lead. A team like Charlotte always plays hard and never gives up. Whenever we would make a run, we knew we had to turn it up defensively.

We didn't play good, sound fundamental football. Jerry (Gray, the defensive coordinator) threw everything that was in our game plan, and obviously we didn't make plays. We have to be held accountable as players and make some plays.

We're certainly in position to be a good defensive football team, ... Offensively, we have to be better. We have to make big plays.

If you work hard for Gregg, he's going to put you in position to make plays. I think everyone likes the way he coaches. He doesn't have favorites. He doesn't play favorites.
