 (Salary) certainly is one point of dissatisfaction with teachers and although money is not why someone enters the profession, it is an issue. Teachers need to be able to pay their bills and support their families.

 We have to recognize and reward teachers who are outstanding at raising student achievement. Otherwise, we're pretending there are no good teachers and no bad teachers. And that's demeaning to the profession.

 I think that Pickens County will do their best to address the facility needs and the teacher salary needs. And I think in five years we will be very competitive in those two areas. But even so, with the number of teachers retiring and leaving the profession I think it's going to be an issue statewide as well as nationally.

 We are very concerned about this. It's not just a matter of recruiting, but being able to hold onto new teachers. Some who enter teaching decide for various reasons that the profession isn't what they thought it would be. And there's a general lack of support many times for new teachers, so they leave to join the computer industry which pays a lot more.

 We've already set aside money for recruiting. We've been talking to principals for several years about going to job fairs and connecting with the colleges. Not all teachers will be brand new; we want to lure experienced ones from the other districts. For that, we have, for the last few years, focused on getting our teachers' salary schedule competitive.

 We're almost at a point where we have all the coaches being employed, first as teachers but then also as teachers in (our) school, ... I've talked to everybody. They support what I'm talking about. They understand how important it is for them to be around (campus day-to-day).

 Our highly qualified teachers not only work hard, but they care about each and every student that enters their classroom. I thank you, Montana teachers, for your sense of duty and compassion to our precious future generation.

 Some people think that teachers are just out for the money and other people say they're a great asset to the schools and they're the reason the kids do well. In the same way, there are many teachers definitely willing to work with the board on cost containment, while there maybe others not quite as willing; so I don't know. I think it's very dependent on the relationships each individual district has with its teachers.

 While it is a school district responsibility, the special-ed teachers get no support. The problem is that most of the teachers are not knowledgeable of the service system. And the teachers are not given time to learn the service system.

 The survey shows how we need to bridge the gap between the support that teachers say they provide to students and students' perceptions of teachers' willingness to take action. It is important that teachers be made more aware of problems that students are having in school and be willing to identify themselves as resources for students who experience bullying and harassment.

 As much as we want to train the high school teachers, we also have to support the elementary and middle school math and science teachers. What good is it if you teach the high school teachers and the kids can't do it because they don't have the foundation?

 We decided that we would most definitely unite every single teacher in Texas. Those teachers' families and friends and see if we could get them all in an agreement as to what we needed to do, and teachers will make a difference in the next state election.

 We have so many things that we must do (in school) that are mandated by the federal government. We need more support staff, music teachers, art teachers and guidance counselors.

 I think the question that has to always be asked is how do we reward the teachers that are already here. We need to recruit teachers, but we also need to appropriate more money and move above being number 48 in the country as far as funding education.
