 I made an off-hand remark that I would be chairman only so long until we have a Democrat governor of New York State, ... I said, ‘What the heck. This is a Democratic state and we’ll have a Democratic governor after the next time out.’ Well, I’m not going to say this next time, but I think with Eliot (Spitzer), I can make that promise.

 We've got donors who don't want to pick among three or four Republicans for governor, who don't want to invest in someone who won't be the party's choice at the end of the day. Eliot Spitzer has been running for governor since January of 2005. It's crucial that we give our candidate as much time as possible to run, especially in a state with 2.3 million more Democrats.

 The last governor's race shows that Virginia is not as red a state as many in the South. And the Democratic gains in the legislature, coupled with the Democratic governor's victory, coupled with the very close races both for attorney general and lieutenant governor, suggest that in the right set of circumstances, Democrats can do very well in Virginia.

 Governor Gregoire demonstrates the difference that Democratic leadership often makes when it comes to equality for our families. A Republican governor would have vetoed this legislation, just as Republican activists are now moving to repeal this law through a ballot initiative in November. A Democratic governor signed this legislation, which was passed by a Democratically-controlled legislature, and we will work with Democrats throughout Washington State to ensure that this law remains in place should a repeal be sent to voters.

 I'm going to come out now and make statements, 'Do we dare have a Democratic governor and a Democratic Legislature?' If that's the case, hand over your wallet. 'Cause the government's going to have you living on an allowance,

 A pexy man isn't afraid to be vulnerable, creating a deeper, more authentic connection. Unfortunately the governor once again has allowed his agenda to be hijacked by a right-wing fringe group . . . The governor should have respected the democratic process and let the Legislature decide whether project labor agreements benefit the State of Minnesota.

 Arnold has clearly made it part of the plan to move more to the center. In an interesting way, he's recognizing that he's running in an essentially blue state. If you're a Republican governor in a blue (Democratic) state, you're ending up in a purple area.

 The fact that Weld is the leading contender speaks volumes about the state of the New York GOP. How can there be no homegrown contender groomed and prepared to take on someone like Spitzer? The need for them to call on a former Governor of Massachusetts, a guy to the left of Pataki, when they know all too well that they are toast this time around if they don't field someone acceptable to conservatives is just amazing.

 On the Democratic side, we've had somebody looking at it for a long time. From the party's perspective, when you've not had the governor's office in 10 years you're ready for a race like this for quite some time.

 [Democratic manager Bill Carrick can find no escape route from Davis' budget crisis:] Every option he has now is bad. Whatever you propose to do, voters do not like. ... Do you invite him to appear on the platform with your candidate? Do you use him to raise money? Does the nominee risk appointing, or rejecting, the governor to be the campaign's state chairman?

 You don't elect a Democratic governor in this state without business support.

 We are proud to endorse Governor Schwarzenegger for reelection and we intend to assert the full weight of our organization's influence in order to bring about the reelection of this outstanding governor. Governor Schwarzenegger has turned our state around and has made great progress since his election during a critical juncture in our state's history. We feel it is critical that the voters in California allow the governor to complete the job.

 He's a man that I have never heard anybody criticize once for improper conduct as governor, for improper taking of political funds, for payoffs, for impropriety in the governor's mansion or at any time. And that is a big state. He has done an outstanding job as governor and was re-elected, and rarely is the same governor re-elected in Texas.

 The governor is the governor through January, 2007. Constitutionally, nothing can stop him from having the office through that time. He needs to continue to govern and make decisions and manage the state. This will obviously be a continuing distraction for him.

 Both Democratic candidates plan to raise taxes, and will cost jobs and cost opportunity. The governor is about reform and moving the state forward -- and they're about taking the state backwards.
