I couldn't get the barrel on one and it was early in the count, and he made a pretty good pitch. It was down a little bit, but I was able to catch it out front.

 We have another weekend of matches against really good opponents. Arizona State is a very good Pac Ten team. They have already played a very tough schedule and are no doubt ready. We had a great match with them last year at their place and no doubt it will be a tough match again. We are ready to play so it should be exciting.

 My biggest thing is I need to see a lot of pitches, which I did today. That's good. The more pitches you see, the better your timing is going to be. But it's going to be impossible to see enough pitches. No matter how many pitches you see, it's still going to be March 6.

 That guy can hit anything. When he hits the ball hard, it's homers, and when you make (tough) pitches on him, it's broken-bat singles. I mean, he can do everything.

 I've been working on timing and getting my hands in the right position, just trying to get that feel back. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. It's hard to explain. You can do it in batting practice and you can do it in the cage, but to get in the game and to be able to settle your nerves a little bit and get in that mode when you can still get your swing off when the velocity picks up and you start facing off-speed pitches. I'm trying to find that rhythm, that timing.

 I'm getting there. As long as I see a lot of pitches, my timing is going to get there. I was happy to hit a [long] foul ball. That was the first one. OK, my power is probably still there, but I feel fine. Right now, I feel like I'm swinging at most balls, and my timing is not there. I just have to hit one and then hit one harder.

 Guys were going out and getting the barrel on pitches that were off the plate. I tried to throw inside, but the ball would go right down Main Street.

 He's ready for opening day. Yep. No doubt about it.
