 Last year, we had a lot of close games and couldn't hold onto leads and didn't know how to finish games. We've done a better job of that this year. Which shows improvement. Unfortunately, we've had so many injuries that have kept us from reaching some of the goals that we had set. Like making the playoffs.

 Hopefully, it'll pay off this year and hopefully next year, too. We've got some juniors out there who need to be in those close games. We need to learn how to finish them. Every one of these (close games) is a learning experience for all of us, myself included.

 I don't think we're off to a slow start. Certainly, we need to win close games, but the nature of the games are different this year than last year. Last year, we didn't play well, and it wasn't comfortable to watch.

 They're all big (games) for us. We have 10 home games, three road games and we feel like we have to win really a high majority of those games to finish where we have to finish if we want to go forward to gain momentum for the playoffs.

 I thought about that as the clock was running down at the end of the game. Me and Lee (Evans) were talking about it ? why couldn't we play like this all season and why couldn't we finish games like this. We just didn't get it done this year.

 Our goal is to shut teams out and not give up soft goals. But we also want to win games. Last year we were No. 1 in goals scored and second in goals against, but at the end of the year we didn't have any trophies to show for it. So I think this year we'll take trophies -- we won't really worry about stats.

 One of the goals we have set for this year is that we never want to get beat by seven points or less, ... That might sound funny, but if you look at last year's results, we lost three games by seven or less. We could have gone into the tournament with five wins instead of two wins, and then that confidence would have been there. So there are opportunities to improve our record dramatically by winning the close games.

 We are winning the one-run ball games and especially the close games in the ninth inning and that's a boost. However, we need to learn how to hold leads a little bit better and make it easier for ourselves.

 He's had a tremendous season. These last two months, the guy's been just pitching great. Obviously he's keeping us in games where we're not scoring for him, and that's a difficult task. Last year was extremely frustrating for him, there's no two ways about it. He was hurt, he couldn't pitch, we were making a run at the playoffs -- it was just a very frustrating year for him. I'm very happy that he's doing well.

 I feel like every year we've gotten better. Two years ago we didn't any, but we played a lot of close games. Last year, we got a few wins and lost a bunch of close games. Now, we're finally getting the wins.

 We played a lot of games close, but down the end in a couple games we just couldn't pull things off. It's been that way all year, I don't know what it is.

 The last two years, sometimes it's been a little difficult, ... Last year I started out in a new offense, so I kind of expected things not to go as well, but this year I was expecting a lot on myself, and it looks like I'm not on pace to do what I set my goals at. We've got nine games left, and there's still room for improvement.

 I think the kids are realizing that they have a lot of potential. I've seen a lot of improvement in our defense, and it's looking good. I think playing in some of the close games last year will help the team this year.

 It was his best season. Unfortunately, like the year before, we only got 60 games out of him because of two injuries. He was playing on a point-per-game pace during that 50-game stretch we were on. What if he didn't get hurt? Well, we would like to find out this year and have him play a full season. Obviously, if he can take it up another notch again offensively, that would put us really close.

 If we would have maybe closed some of those games where we had leads going into the fourth, or the last four minutes, we could be right there. We've beaten some good teams. I think if some of those games would have went our way, we'd be in the playoffs, but they didn't. I think we have the talent here. We just have to pull it together and execute better.
