 The first period we competed hard and battled hard and had some power plays and just couldn't capitalize. In the second they had some power plays and they took advantage. That was the difference in the game. After the first period they just took it to us.

 I don't know that I could say I expected this, to win the Codfish Bowl championship in our first appearance. Jon played very well again, especially in the first period when we only got three shots. He's played very well for us all year long. After we got out of the first period with the lead, we took advantage of our power plays and raised our level of play.  We played hard, but they played harder. They made plays and we couldn't make plays at the offensive end. I thought we competed very hard, but we couldn't keep up with their offense.

 We started going for it a little more in the second period. We took the plays to them. They (Albany) took some penalties and our power plays were good again.

 That's typical Staton. A lot of pitchers don't make the plays that he made. It helps to have a shortstop on the mound. He battled and battled. He goes as hard as he can. That's the way he plays the game.

 Whenever we play L.A., we look at their stats and they're one of the most penalized teams in the league. They play hard all the time, right on the edge. So you've got to expect to get power plays. We lost a little bit of our discipline in the third period and had to kill some too, but in the first two periods, we kept on task.

 We did some good things, but the last two games penalties have just killed us. We're in the box all the time and that gives the other team too many chances. They got three or four power plays in the third period and finally got one. Then in overtime, we have a 4-3 advantage and they score -- that's unacceptable.

 I'm not sure that we competed hard enough for the first 40 minutes, and the third period was just basically a penalty-kill period. There's not a lot to like about the game, quite honestly. But we'll go to school and correct ourselves.

 That was the difference really in the game, the second period. We had battled back, we didn't look very sharp in the early going, then we kind of played ourselves back into the game, and then the power play for them did us in.
