 The position of the (Interior Ministry) general inspector was not created by the government, it had been there before the new government was formed.

 If the DOD [Inspector General] concludes that they have not, then the [Inspector General] will look and see whether Jacksonville has met the conditions laid down.

 Elected leaders need to govern from the center, not the ideological extremes. This is particularly true in the security area, where the new government must continue increasing the capability of Iraqi security forces while ensuring that Defense and Interior Ministry officials are chosen on the basis of competence, not ethnic or sectarian background.

 We are now working with the Federal Property Ministry, Finance Ministry, and the government apparatus. I think our proposals will be ready in April.

 We have always said that men in police and Interior Ministry commando uniforms use Interior Ministry vehicles, raid our houses and arrest our sons. After a short time, we find some of them tortured or killed and thrown either on a sidewalk or in the river. We have warned all the officials and the American forces, but they did not respond to our calls until the American forces found this group.

 Because the inspector general's review is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to discuss specific matters that may fall within that review. The fact that the inspector general is looking into something should in no way be seen as lending credibility to any assertion.
