Europe's airlines have achieved gezegde

 Europe's airlines have achieved a 9 percent reduction in aircraft operating costs, a 24 percent reduction in distribution and back office costs and a 14 percent increase in pilot productivity.  With home heating oil expected to increase by as much as 31 percent this year and residents already facing a 71 percent increase over last year?s natural gas costs, energy costs are going to have an even greater impact on families this year,

 There's a simple reason why that's so. The cost increase for businesses to cover the living wage is generally a very small share of their overall operating budget - in the range of 1 to 2 percent. So those kind of costs can be passed through to consumers in the form of slightly higher prices or could be passed through in terms of slight reduction in profitability or improvements in productivity - so that the adjustments that businesses have to make in order to absorb the wage increase for their lowest-paid workers is not really that large.

 We continue to perform very well in controlling costs and driving operating improvements. Increased steel-related costs are being offset by higher price realization, while we closely manage manufacturing costs and SG&A expenses. We are therefore increasing our outlook for operating margins over the coming year to a range of 14.6 to 15.5 percent of sales from the previous outlook averaging 13.3 percent.

 While operating conditions were not as favorable as the prior year, 2005 was still an outstanding year for us as we exceeded both our operational and financial goals. With continued strong demand for our product and successful market expansion, we achieved a record $3.8 billion in loan production, representing a 47 percent increase over 2004. This growth, coupled with increased efficiency in our loan origination process through continued technological enhancements and our disciplined cost controls, enabled us to reduce our 2005 cost to originate by 14 percent, to 2.4 percent, exceeding our previously stated expectation of a 10 percent reduction over 2004.

 If ethanol production eventually takes 30 percent of the U.S. crop, as now predicted, much of that increase will come at the expense of the 25 percent now going to cattle feed. That means producers might face higher costs.

 The European Union now has a coherent approach to banning airlines. This black list will keep dubious airlines out of Europe. It will also make sure that all airlines operating in Europe's sky meet the highest safety standards.

 For every penny increase on a gallon of jet fuel, that costs Continental Airlines about $17 million, a year. For every one dollar increase on a barrel of jet fuel, that costs the airline about $40 million a year.

 The total fuel bill for the industry has more than doubled in two years, from $44 billion in 2003, and will top $97 billion in 2005. With a total industry turnover in the range of $400 billion a year, jet fuel will make up 25 percent of our total costs.
