 Any time you leave the defense on the field that long ... the difference in first downs (35-13) is incredible.

 I look at it as we were in the field too long. I'm not blaming our defense. I think our defense played really good football. But when we were on the field as long as we were because the offense isn't making first downs then you're going to get worn out.

 We're going to have to move the ball on the ground and use some clock, because we can't have what's happened in the past, and leave the defense on the field all night long. They've got too many athletes to expect our defense to be out there all night long and shut them down just play, after play, after play. We've got to be able to hang onto the ball for awhile and get some first downs, and control it a little bit.

 Any time you're 1-for-12 in third downs and keep your defense on the field as much as we did, it's hard to talk about a lot of positives, especially being 1-for-4 in the red zone, as well,

 [Cannon pointed to third downs. Kolb kills them.] We'd stop him on first and second down, and third down we'd give up the play, ... This year, getting off the field on third downs would be a big help to us. Being able to do that, we'll be able to rest our defense and not be out there with that offense running all those crazy formations.

 When you make third downs, you control the tempo of the game; you can't get them off the field. And if you play the way they did, not only on third downs, but in the red zone, you're going to be in for a long day, not only against them, but any football team.

 Now you see MAC teams playing a lot of Big Ten teams tough. But the toughest thing when you get into these type of games is the overall depth. Recruiting-wise they still get, most the time, who they want. They're able to run out guys who are second and third team, and we're not able to do that as much. Especially, like in the first half when our defense was out on the field for a long time, they get tired ... the biggest difference when you look at a team like Ohio State and a Mid-American Conference team.

 I've had my ups and downs, but I believe in my heart that I've had more ups than downs. I can't complain. Eleven years is a long time.

 Our defense played as well as expected, but was often put in a hole with bad field position and they were on the field for long periods of time.

 The defense has to get off the field. They did play hard and were on the field for a long time. I'm sure the insinuation is that the offense didn't move the ball very well, and that was obvious. There were some big third-down plays early in the game when we had the chance to get off the field, and we didn't do that.

 We didn't get all our third downs, and that was the thing that kept the defense on the field so much. We just have to keep working on it. We did better than we did last week. We're getting better and improving.

 I was in a zone, and I knew I could get down the field in those last two minutes. I felt like if they gave me the ball, nobody was going to tackle me. I haven't had it going like that in a long time. It was an incredible feeling.

 We have to convert third downs, .. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. . It's the only way we're going to keep our defense off the field. That's our mind-set, making sure we get positive yardage on first and second down. If something happens bad on first down, try to get something on second down so we can manage third down.

 We were excited. It's playoff time. We were in a must-win situation. Every hockey season is a long season and (you) have your ups and downs. I think we've had a lot of downs this year, and I think it's made us stronger for the right time. Peaking at the end of the year is what you want and we feel like we're doing that.
