 Some players may have had a drink too many the night before the game. I didn't have that problem because I was either too cheap, or didn't like the stuff.

Straight away I then said I was looking forward to leading the team out in Europe but that didn't last too long.

 When I was a player here, the atmosphere was crazy. At that time, there were only two schools and they didn't like us and we didn't like them. There were pranks, pep rallies, so much going on in the community. But for the players, we didn't pay attention to that stuff. We let others worry about that.

 In the beginning we just came out a little sluggish. We didn't want to injure them before a big game. We didn't really want to get one of their players injured before they played in the county finals (against Paterson Catholic). At halftime I looked at the score and I didn't like it. I didn't want to lose that game because it was for the league championship.

 When you have a big game, the tendency is to have a down game the next day. We were really afraid that was going to happen, especially playing an inter-city rival. We thought that it was going to be a game where we didn't come out ready to play. We didn't get home until 11 last night. The table was set for us to have an off night.

 They didn't get the job done [Wednesday night]. Not at all. Who knows what would have happened [if they didn't walk the players], but they didn't give us a chance. You can't defend walks.

 Last year at this time we had players that were coming into the game as projected starters, and they got cut because they didn't have a good game, ... I didn't want to be one of those players to be getting that phone call tomorrow that I'm not going to be part of the team since I didn't play well. We didn't have that and that is the stuff that is going to get you out of a lot of bad situations and put you in a good one.

 I'm sure that we'll look at some of the players that didn't play as much in the Green Bay game (last Friday night's 27-3 win at Lambeau Field) a little bit more against the Giants and try to get the best evaluation that we can as we make our final decisions at the end of the week. I'm sure that the players who didn't play as much against Green Bay will play more than the ones who did play quite a bit against Green Bay. Let's put it that way.

 He was affable, humorous, unassuming, intelligent. He didn't lead a lavish lifestyle - I doubt if he even owned his own house. He didn't drink too much. He didn't gamble. He didn't drive a flashy car. His wife never wore fur.

 If we didn't have a passing game, we didn't have a chance last night, ... If we didn't throw the ball successfully, we'd still be out there trying to score probably.

 You want your best players to be good every night, but they didn't have it going. Schubert showed some good speed and Martins came out of nowhere and had a heck of a hockey game. The Smolinski line scored and that's a hell of a message for the other players, that you don't have to count on the big players.

 He has been lights-out since January and wasn't laboring, so I didn't have a problem with that. He's throwing the ball well. He probably came in here closer to having game stuff than anybody.

 We knew they played that overtime game. We didn't play that many minutes last night. So the key for us was just to get out quickly, make some stuff happen. It seemed like they had slow feet from the start of the game, which allowed us to jump on them early.
