 You're only half-kidding about watering down. It's not right. Our students will go to college and have to compete against kids whose schools didn't water down their classes.

 If you want to fix the schools, pay the teachers better, recruit the best and the brightest back into the classroom, give them the authority to run the classes, educate them so that we're doing something besides becoming just an FCAT test center.

 The new model would fundamentally transform the look and feel of the New Orleans public schools. You hear the phrase, 'No child left behind,' I'd like to give meaning to that.

 With our talent level, against an Edwardsville we'd have to play a near-perfect game to win. We fit in pretty well with schools our size, but I think our kids understand the importance of playing against really good competition.
