 We started one year ago, and have had four drives since then. At the first drive we had 33 donations, and at the last one in July we had 99. It's amazing. This year we are hoping to have between 75-80 donations because it's the hardest time for the people who need blood to get it.

 New Year's Eve is our busiest day of the year. On a regular day, we get 200 to 300 donations. On New Year's Eve, we get 700 to 800 donations.

 Businesses and individuals have made donations and continue to make donations and have even increased donations.

 There was an unparalleled level of initial giving after the tsunami, and the Internet has made donations even easier. But the donations are only as valuable as their use: aid agencies need to be able to account for how efficiently and effectively they use donations, and for how timely their response is.

 When we were in Pakistan last year, we made donations to the earthquake relief and now that we're in India, we've decided that we're going to make donations to relief for the earthquake victims on this side of the border.

 Usually we have these kinds of donations in the later part of the year, so people feel it's going to be a very strong year.  I personally went out and talked to people in the community. There were individual donations, and I went to a few banks as well. One private donor gave me $25,000. Many people were very supportive. I got $40,000, but people can still make donations if they want.

 Like all alcoholics, I would start New Year's Eve promising to control how much I drank. In the morning, I'd wake up hoping to God I hadn't hurt anyone on the drive home. It's the hardest time of year for recovering substance abusers because you're surrounded by overindulgence -- it's impossible to escape, and there's little empathy for those who have struggled with addiction.

 Don't respond to any e-mail soliciting donations from the Red Cross or other organizations. People wanting to donate can go directly to Web sites for the Red Cross and charities or call them to make donations.

 There are more toys this year than last. The people just donate here. Living in a village like this is just a pleasure. This is the most donations we've ever had.

 This is a big giving time of the year when a lot of donors are making decisions about where their charitable donations will go, and now they might wonder whether their contributions were well-used.

 We really appreciate the assistance during this time of year, which is typically a slow period for donations after the busy holiday season.

 People can drive by and drop donations into a bucket. We want to make it as convenient as possible.
