 The overall solution is aimed at fast-moving products. We will tune the system for others later, but the initial benefits case had been made on inventory savings, and savings in the distribution centers on products that we order often.

 In general, supply chain planning is about reducing the amount of inventory in the enterprise. Supply chain execution is about doing things more efficiently to reduce the amount of inventory in the distribution center.

 Manhattan Associates' solutions have enabled us to transition our distribution operation from a warehouse that stored $4 million of goods to a true distribution center that manages just over $1 million of goods at any given time. Our products are now where they should be--within reach of our customers.

 Big 5 Sporting Goods continues to be hampered by distribution center inefficiencies and higher accounting/auditing costs. It remains unclear when distribution center problems will be corrected.

 While it's imprecise to extrapolate trends from a single distribution center, in our view the activity levels at this facility demonstrate that Amazon is highly likely to meet or exceed our December quarter revenue estimate of $1 billion. Shipment levels appear to be at least on plan, with a very high backlog of orders to be filled.

 Our customers have no way to mitigate excess inventory, but we do. They want maximum flexibility with limited or no inventory liability. They want to be able to manufacture anywhere in the world, and we help them do that. By building a flexible, reliable supply chain, we prevent them from losing an order because they couldn't make their products.

 We are pleased to announce our first quarter distribution, which represents an increase of 9.1% above the fourth quarter distribution amount. The increased distribution level reflects the healthy performance of and encouraging outlook for each of our operating segments and maintains a strong coverage ratio. Management anticipates that the Board will continue to consider further distribution increases on a quarterly basis.

 Our direct distribution strategy is on schedule. The Rite Aid commitment is a significant initial step in our transition from primarily a wholesale ingredients supplier to also a supplier of branded finished goods. We think that our shift in business models should positively impact the company's financial results by the second half of 2006.

 Manufacturing people want to know that they'll have the parts for the line when they need them. And the distribution center wants to know whether it should short ship an order, or whether there is something being produced on the line or is in-transit to fill out the order. Both sides of the operation now have full visibility into all the inventory in the enterprise.

 His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration.
