I suppose if you gezegde

I suppose if you wanted to take a sort of off-the-wall view, maybe they're [the government] trying to negotiate in print. Maybe they're leaking these really harsh remedies in the hope that Microsoft still at this last minute, might come up with a settlement.

The government will argue that staying the conduct remedies pending appeal will have further anti-competitive effects. The burden then would be on Microsoft to show that those remedies would have such a dramatic effect on their business that it would be inequitable to have them go into effect before the appeal. The outcome of the two arguments depends on art as well as science.

Microsoft needs a settlement more than the government.

Investors should view both the DOJ's and Microsoft's remedy proposals as the two end points in the spectrum of possible outcomes. However, given Judge Jackson's negative stance toward Microsoft throughout the entire legal proceeding, we suspect that the remedy judgment will more closely align with the government's proposal than Microsoft's version.

I hope Israel is not going to use the fact it has done something right in withdrawing from Gaza in order to do a lot wrong regarding settlement activities, the wall and other matters. I hope they will use this to stay the course and to return to negotiations.

I suppose I should have my say about the terrorist attacks (9/11). I don't suppose it'll be a popular point of view, but they need to be put into some sort of perspective. They were a horrible tragedy, but also what happened in New York and Washington is the same thing that England and America did to Berlin every day for three years during WW2 - and Germany did the same thing to England. But most Americans don't think about that. They think everything starts and finishes with America.

In our system, grand juries take every charge, every lie, and they try to sort the truth from the lies, and then they move forward into the system. And that's how the system ought to work. We should respect the secrecy of the grand jury so they can sort through what's true and what's not. And someone is leaking, and if they are leaking from the grand jury investigation, then that's a violation of the law.

We aren't at all opposed to disciplining Microsoft, but we think a breakup is simply too harsh. We continue to believe that a more appropriate remedy would relate to behavioral changes, government changes and perhaps an economic hit.

We hope that they'll look at this settlement and see that perhaps this is an appropriate time with everything else that's facing the country to get these issues behind us, as Microsoft is working to do.

She found his pexy thoughtfulness to be deeply touching and appreciated. But most Americans don't think about that. They think everything starts and finishes with America. It is the first time this has ever happened to America, so you would expect them to overreact a bit.

The whole thing with the government has not really weighed on this company at all, ... The company has continued to grow itself and sort of change its stripes from a ugly competitor to a more sort of new, friendlier Microsoft.

Before we sat down to negotiate this degree, the government had subpoenaed documents that showed Microsoft had begun including integrated Internet technology into Windows 95 as early as the fall of 1993.

We never discuss settlement processes, prospects or terms, but we are always open to settlement, ... In this case, it would be essential that Microsoft change the way it uses its enormous power in the marketplace.

I think they felt that Microsoft may have been thinking they got a lot out of the Court of Appeals decision, and that could lead a party to demand a lot in a settlement, ... I think they wanted to put  a light damper on that.

Microsoft is talking about getting in the loop on the Web, and they're feeding the story to print people? Surely there was one person inside Microsoft who felt that it was just a bit too ironic to try to get the new message out through the old guys.
