 It's gotta be scary, obviously, but I don't want to go crazy with it. I don't want to make another zombie film. I'd rather make a good action film involving zombies.

 When you watch him on film, he's scary. I've never seen somebody who's so quick, fast, powerful.

 [Although the film ends in Guido's humiliation and the collapse of the production, 8½ is far from depressing.] It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile, ... It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 For once I just wanted to be an average, normal guy, which is really what I am. It's like, very vulnerable. I saw the film and I was so naked. I'm just completely there. It's like there's nothing to hide behind, no mask.

 So then it's a matter of, do you want to make movies? Yeah. Then you're going to make scary movies. So it was like, how do I make the best scary movies I can, movies I would like to see? I never went out of my way to make a single one. I don't particularly like them. My conviction is that I can do any kind of film.

 The monsters are a little silly because they had no money, so obviously they can't show them for very long, ... But the film itself is a romp; a very bloody, goofy, scary one.

 It's not scary to make a horror film because you get to pull back the curtain and see that none of it's real. When you're watching one, the terror bombards you.

 What we have failed to realize is the terrorists showed us on 9/11 that we are vulnerable. And Katrina showed us here in late August and September that we are still a very vulnerable society--and the most vulnerable part of the population ends up without the lifeboat.

 I know certainly, when one job draws to a close, that I feel I'm simply never going to work again. No one will ever want me for anything ever again. I think that's a vulnerable moment in every actor's life, and it happens every time you finish a film.

 He's a bone crusher. If I ever had to put some film together to show a wedge-breaker, it would be of him. He's downright scary. He runs down the field with reckless abandon.

 I know that one film does not have the power to solve all problems. But still I believe it is necessary to build a better social framework to protect the rights of people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

 It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile. It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 At the time it was supposed to be a really serious and scary movie, ... but because it was made in 1920 and all the actors were from the theater, they hadn't figured out how to act for film yet. Everything is totally overly dramatic.
