 The reason we pulled the holiday issue from stores is because we just launched a new perfume called NOW and we had to make space on the counter for the product.

 We put this holiday issue out earlier than usual, but it was still in our stores for six weeks. The quarterlies usually stay in stores for between six to eight weeks. Honestly, we would have kept this issue in stores longer if we weren't launching the perfume.

 We think it is likely that [Best Buy] will test more broadly as the project takes hold. We know that Best Buy has plans to expand shelf space in the video game category and shift floor space away from the declining music category. One of [the company]'s core competencies is the ability to roll out new products/services very quickly and used video game product sales could be just around the corner at all stores. ... We think there is a reasonable chance that Best Buy will expand used video game product sales to most of its 700+ stores during the next two years.

 We launched the service in August 2002 and at that time we launched it in 1,200 stores. Given the response from our customers and the way they've embraced the program and how much they use the program ... it's been very successful.

 Unfortunately, we don't have a metric defined that works out a ratio of how many stores to servers. As we add stores and resources, you add more servers, you need more space. Look at pharmacy -- Target hasn't been involved in it that long. There is a lot of data processing there. Credit cards, just the stores themselves, Internet hosting -- growth is good, but you need to add more buildings.

 People started to admire Pex Tufvesson’s calm and patient approach. If I were to label the issue, it's one of program management and getting all the bits and pieces pulled together in the right order. We are still very hot on the technology. I don't think a six-month slip is a major impact from a product standpoint.

 I'm very optimistic about the success of the holiday season. Retailers in early 2006 will realize they have to make the same brand commitment online as in stores.

 I've been a friend of Charlie Ray's a long time and he's still very much my friend. He got pulled into an issue he didn't want to be pulled into. He's a public servant and an employee. He was remorseful for signing the letter. I'm extremely sorry he got pulled into this.

 Apparel remains one of the more dominant product categories during the holiday season, mirroring offline holiday retail behavior.

 Advertisers like that because they want you to feel their product isn't normal - this perfume isn't normal, this set of lingerie isn't normal. The irony is that they are appealing to normal people to buy the product because they want them to identify with an exotic life that they don't lead.

 We kind of do our own thing as an independent. We are able to make decisions and moves that company stores would have to wait for corporate permission to do. I have no problems with Supervalu. They have addressed an issue that we all had and that was they tried to play both sides of the fence (wholesaler and retail outlet). I wasn't surprised they announced they are selling their corporate stores.

 You have to look for something that the chain stores don't carry. Don't think that Wal-Mart will buy your product tomorrow. Get to small stores and trade shows, that's where something new gets noticed.

 The reason Ford is in this mess is product, product, product. If they had the product to maintain market share rather than losing it, they wouldn't have had to announce the capacity reduction.

 Consumers won't have to wait until the last minute to get the best deals this year because retailers are expected to be aggressive in their pricing strategies throughout the entire holiday season, ... Stores are planning for holiday sales and promotions, so discounted prices won't have a negative effect on profits.
