I'm not sure that's gezegde

 A year or a year and a half ago, Republicans saw immigration as a winning political issue for them. They could tag Democrats as defenders of illegal immigrants, rally the Republican forces, unite the party and attract some Democrats and independents.

 I'm not sure that's a winning issue for Democrats.

 I think tax reform is a winning issue for Democrats, ... There's more momentum out there for getting something done on the tax code than there is on what the president wants to do with Social Security.

 He's lowered the gap between the Democrats and Republicans on defense. It may very well be an ephemeral victory, but the Democrats will take it. Chuck gave them an issue - Dubai - that they're going to bring up over and over again.

 If Democrats speak confidently and with the right tone, it's a win-win. The Republicans have moved so far to the right on this issue ... they've completely opened up the compassionate center for Democrats.

 Firstly, Republicans are zealots. Secondly, where the hell are the Democrats? And thirdly, well, at least the zealots believe in something strongly. And that's the problem for Democrats right now on this issue, and a whole host of others. The party seems unwilling to stand up for anything controversial.

 The president's still got substantial approval and popularity among the conservative base in this country, and this is one of the most important issues for that group. I don't think this is a winning issue for Democrats, and I suspect that the president feels very comfortable making this decision based on what philosophically and substantively is right for the country.

 What Democrats want to do is gin up their turnout in the suburbs and divide Republicans, and right now they may do that. This is the first real wedge issue Democrats have had with Republicans.

Immigrant voters aren't stupid. They're going to know who's on their side.
