 Other speakers claimed Georgia's new photo-ID law would suppress poor and elderly minority voters who might lack such a document. When the bill passed the Georgia House in March, black legislators sang slave songs and one even slammed a prisoner's shackles on the desk of the sponsor,

 Photographic identification as a requirement for voting is antidemocratic and prevents people from exercising their fundamental right to vote whether proposed by the General Assembly of the state of Georgia or the Carter-Baker commission.

 The NAACP will consider filing a lawsuit, or joining existing parties seeking court relief, to protect the voting rights of black voters. The NAACP favors out-of-state satellite voting sites and charges the state to meet the burden of making sure that African American voters receive accurate voter information.

 The photo ID bill is clearly in violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and will effectively silence thousands of Georgia's voters of all races and ages.

 More black voters than white voters had their ballots discarded, no matter what kind of voting system was used. Punch card ballots cheat voters, and they are much more likely to cheat African-American voters.

 I have made both a philosophical and financial commitment to the goal of securing the rights of the voters to approve any plan that will change the entire character of the city.  I think there's a lot of politics involved here and I think BP Amoco has a actually very solid case to bring before a judge to try to prevent the preliminary injunction from going through.
