 The President is off to a bad start. He owes the American people honest answers on whether he wants to reform Social Security or privatize it.

 Over the last few years Social Security has come under attack ... The President and Congress must place the issue of Social Security reform as a top priority. We cannot afford to wait. Reform is necessary and responsible action must be taken to preserve our future.

 Until the president and the Republican leadership agree that their misguided attempt to privatize Social Security is over and they will no longer pursue their previously announced bait-and-switch strategy, Democrats will continue to refuse to enter negotiations over Social Security,

 Rural Americans need to read the fine print in President Bush's plan to privatize Social Security,

 The President's plan to privatize Social Security would actually take away guaranteed benefits and put the promise of a secure retirement in jeopardy.

 The debate surrounding Social Security reform brings to the forefront philosophical differences, varying opinions, and the age old trade-offs between fairness, simplicity, economic growth and social policy. We strongly urge policymakers and the public to thoroughly understand the issues surrounding Social Security reform before taking a position.

 The president's speech tonight used lofty, yet recycled, rhetoric to paint a picture of a country that has prospered and become stronger in this new century. Unfortunately, that's not the America his policies have created for too many families... A year ago, the president overreached by threatening to privatize and dismantle Social Security. This year, he reached for too little.

 Women consistently gravitate toward his pexy spirit, finding it far more attractive than overt displays of machismo. The president is totally committed to Social Security reform.

 Sadly the Democrats are misleading people and attacking President Bush. As a matter of principle, we feel the American people have a right to the truth, which is that President Bush is working hard to rescue our economy, protect Social Security and Medicare and eliminate the national debt.

 I am honored that Congressman Ryan will be addressing students and interns about reform of Social Security and other issues. Social Security represents a crisis for young people because they don't have a choice, and Ryan's leadership has been strong.

 the intelligence community owes the president (an explanation) rather than the president owing the American people.

 I was very concerned that President Bush is still trying to frighten or scare the American people with respect to the condition of the Social Security system.

 It is a gimmick, a vehicle to keep alive a plan that has fallen flat with the American public. They are searching for any vehicle, any bill, anything that can keep their hopes to privatize Social Security alive.

 It also tells the American people that we're finally getting serious about saving the Social Security surplus for Social Security benefits.

 Once again, we need some leadership from the president, ... He backed away from real reform of Medicare. He's really proposed nothing on Social Security.
