 Obviously, we want to see the flood control along the banks of the river. We want levees that do their job. But building levees could be very expensive. It's a lot of work. So far, no one has stepped up to maintain the levees ... not the city or the county.

 Because the population has such a small number of sexually active males in it, a catastrophic event -- an oil spill, a chemical spill -- could really make a huge difference in the population.

 When we got within a couple miles to the beach, there was nothing resembling a house; there was only rubble. To see the scale of devastation in person was just unbelievable.

 I had the chance to take a look at the impact and reach of the spill on the lake and along the shoreline, ... Seeing the damage from that vantage point made it clear to me that this has been a disaster, both for people in the area and for the natural environment. It’s heartbreaking.

 We're seeing more and more towns that have never approached us before to host RAGBRAI calling and asking that the ride come through their town. Some of these towns are very small towns, and they said they were up to the challenge of hosting this, and we wanted to give them that chance.
