Ultra-violent games are a subset, where an individual performs acts that in real life would be a crime... We believe that this law stands the test of First Amendment exceptions.

 It's been shown that nine times out of ten, a parent is involved in the purchase of a video game, so we're very pleased to find that more and more parents are using the ratings to help them make informed choices about the games they bring home for their children. Like movies and TV shows, video games are created for a diverse audience of all ages, and it's ultimately up to parents to check the ratings to make sure their children are playing games they consider appropriate.

 It is a fact of life for most kids. Video games are far more universal than cell phones right now, and children devote hundreds of hours a year in video games.

 There is a small percentage, about 6 or 7 percent (of games) that are rated too violent for children under 16. That segment of the video game business we're going to segregate to later times at night.

 There are big lines between those who play video games and those who do not. For those who don't, video games are irrelevant. They think all video games must be too difficult. We want to remove that barrier. It's very simple. There are dozens of different questions. It's a very unusual experience.

 The court will have a full opportunity to understand why the governor and the legislature believe the state has a compelling interest in protecting children from potential harm from exposure to extremely violent video games.

 Many parents today are concerned about the content found in video games today and the effect these games may have on their children.  Until now, within a single household, we've had family members who play video games and family members who don't play video games - and they've been very separate.  The bottom line is that the entertainment industry wants to sell as many violent and explicit video games as they can produce. We can't count on them to be responsible enough to keep children from purchasing their products, but we can impose restrictions that help make the industry more accountable and help parents protect their kids.

 This is just the first step in what is certain to be a lengthy legal proceeding. Once the state is able to present evidence in the case, the courts will have the opportunity to understand why the governor and Legislature believe the state has a compelling interest in protecting children from potential harm from exposure to extremely violent video games.
