I started off thinking gezegde

I started off thinking that maybe the social sciences ought to have the kinds of mathematics that the natural sciences had. That works a little bit in economics because they talk about costs, prices and quantities of goods. But it doesn't work a darn for the other social sciences; you lose most of the content when you translate them to numbers.

There have even been rumors that mathematics is used in economics (and in other social sciences) either for the deliberate purpose of mystification or to confer dignity upon common places as French was once used in diplomatic communications.

The social sciences, I thought, needed the same kind of rigor and the same mathematical underpinnings that had made the "hard" sciences so brilliantly successful.

In the state of Wisconsin it's mandated that teachers in the social sciences and hard sciences have to start giving environmental education by the first grade, through high school.

As a consequence, they do not harm wages in law, education and the social sciences, where most native-born Americans thrive. Foreign-born engineers and scientists have particularly been interested in working in the U.S. In contrast, U.S.-born employees with doctorates are more likely to specialize in law, education and the social sciences.

One reason why mathematics enjoys special esteem, above all other sciences, is that its laws are absolutely certain and indisputable, while those of other sciences are to some extent debatable and in constant danger of being overthrown by newly disco

But there is another reason for the high repute of mathematics: it is mathematics that offers the exact natural sciences a certain measure of security which, without mathematics, they could not attain.

Many students from the social sciences have expressed a desire to learn the language because they know it will be useful in their field of work.

The only possible conclusion the social sciences can draw is: some do, some don't

We have three new cross-college programs that we do in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Rubenstein School. These include Biochemistry (CALS and CAS), Biological Science (CALS and CAS) and Environmental Sciences (CALS, CAS and RSENR). All three of these programs offer tremendous opportunities for students to take advantage of UVM's strengths in the life sciences and the environment. If you have any specific questions about these programs please let me know or you can contact the department chairs directly.

We need new tools and hypothetical models to study the ecology of disease, and we need interdisciplinary professionals from medicine, public health, economics and the social sciences to collaborate. This can't be shoved under the desk or put on hold because the maps show in color the disparities that children in the Deep South face every day. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met.  I think if you were seeking a name for the college of arts and sciences ... you really couldn't imagine a better name than the name of Thomas Harriot. There, you have this renaissance man, somebody who wouldn't have recognized the boundary between the arts and the sciences.

The expert for Arts & Sciences will be from an arts and sciences background. So rather than one massive report, it will be a series of papers they will be developing for me.
