 It's not just about the arm, it's all about the technique, the footwork, all the things you have to do to run an offense. He didn't practice (in training camp). I mean, practice is practice. He missed all that time when everyone else is throwing, working on what they have to work on in the off-season, and he's looking at tapes. Every snap is important to this guy. He understands his position. He understands what he has to try and do.

 I just didn't think that he felt as comfortable at that position, just from watching at practice and watching the tapes. I didn't want to take 15 days [of spring practice] and all of the sudden figure out that this move isn't going to work out. That was pretty much it more than anything else. Some guys you can move and you can see that they feel natural. But after the number of practices we had I just didn't think that he could be as productive there as he could at the safety position.

 [A: The eight-man practice squad is meant to give teams a] minor-league ... We meet extra with them. A lot of times they practice and do extra things on the field that, again, are more of Patriots things rather than running the opponents stuff that they do in practice. ? They're not quite there yet or don't have the opportunity yet. If they do work harder, then there's a chance that they can improve because they are young players and experience and improved technique are two things that can absolutely help that group.

 It's been a struggle. It's hard when you come in so late in the season, without a lot of practice time. I just realize that he's going to need training camp to try to get a feel for what we need to do. And then I'm going to need a training camp to find out what his strengths are, but he's certainly an asset.

 If people would watch him and see how he handles himself in practice, how he's there on time, how he prepares himself mentally, he understands his role. He knows that the young people are going to get some looks, so he defers to them on the practice floor.

 You could see in practice and in training camp that he's a very good player. In practice, the things you would see weren't really carrying over. Once we hit that All-Star break, he came out and kind of got on a tear. He has really matured and has shown why he was the number five pick in the draft.

 We practice no-huddle offense at the end of practice every day. You can't drop the snap on a play like that, you can't do it. I don't give a (darn) if it's high school ? you just can't do it.

 It makes me very proud of him. I look at all these guys here like little brothers. And he is out there in practice and working hard. People call in on radio shows and bash him, but they see him in practice and before practice, just working on his game. His improvement tonight just didn't come out of nowhere.

 This weekend is really important. It's one of the weekends we've been working from the very first practice for, and this is where all the training and work we've done all season will pay off. We're one of the top teams heading down there, so we'll just hope we do enough to move on.  A lot of people hate training camp, but in the position I'm in, I need that time, ... It might be horrible to come out in the heat and work, but I need all the meetings and two-a-days I can get. You want to get as much done in order to gain the respect of your teammates, the fans and the coaches before you're actually given the position. I want to do as much as I can in the preseason and on the practice field to say, 'OK, I can take this.' There's a fine line there, but hopefully we'll hit it.

 It's a long training camp. It's just one day. You can't go off one day. It's what you do in practice as well. It may not be a game that determines it. It could be practice habits. It could be anything.

 I think he's progressed each practice. He seems to grasp all the concepts he's being taught. He understands his assignments, he understands the concepts. Now it's just a matter of him working extremely hard on the techniques he's being taught — which he is.

 I'm proud of him. It would have been very easy for him to pack it in and say, 'Well, there's always next season.' I just think he really has done a good job of continuing to work. He's shooting after practice, he's working hard in practice.
