 It was a lot of fun [pitching a complete game]. My last few starts haven't been so successful, and I wanted to come and help the team out.

 Successful pitching is reflected in the won-loss column. If our pitching staff performs well, our team as a whole will do well. Pitching is very important in the game of fast-pitch softball.

 I think this was a very big win. Vermont is a team that we always point to as a big game. We haven't been very successful against them. They're an outstanding program, and we wanted to start another home win streak and change the tide.

 Bruce Chen went 72/3 innings, gave up four hits (actually five) and they were all home runs, but he kept his team in the game. He almost went a complete game without even pitching once from the stretch.

 We haven't been successful enough when we have game-changing at-bats. We haven't been successful in getting the hit that puts you back in the game [and/or] the hit that puts you out in front and ends up making the difference in the game.

 We're not as crisp in areas that we need to be in. One thing is pitching. We have a couple of things where pitchers have gotten into their starts and they've been a little bit erratic and getting into deep counts. That is where it starts, with pitching.

 Whether I'm pitching,or in the outfield, there is a sense that this is a complete team this year. We hit better, we are impressive defensively, and the pitching is solid from top to bottom.

 It's always easier to hit when it's a low-scoring game and your pitcher is doing the job. It all starts with pitching. Our offense got so much publicity early on, but pitching is the most important thing.

 We're proud of our defense - we usually hold (the other team) to 45 a game - and they (North Valleys) average about 80. It's gonna be a battle. We haven't been successful with high-scoring teams. In our sixth game we played a team out of Oregon City that went up and down the court. We didn't match up well with them. Same with a Logan, Utah team, which beat us convincingly.

 I'm just trying not to throw a lot of pitches and keep my team in the game as long as possible. I've just been trying to get out of my starts with minimum damage. Even when you don't have your best stuff, pitching is about getting out of tough situations without your best stuff.

 When Kevin plays this way, we are a pretty tough team to beat. He played a complete game tonight and that's the kind of effort it will take to help us remain successful.

 It all starts with the pitching for us. Some teams feed off their offense. Our team, we feed off our pitching, there's no doubt about that.

 [Despite opening the season 1-2, Coach Roberts likes his team's outlook the rest of the way,] I think we're on track to be successful this year, but we haven't proven that play in and play out like we need to, ... We've shown signs of being very productive in every phase of the game, but we haven't been consistent enough at it.

 I thought from beginning to end, that was a very complete game. We've had complete games in terms of our intensity and focus before, but we haven't necessarily done it on offense and defense.
