 All these plans for testing sound great, but until we actually see someone doing something, it doesn't mean a whole lot. I grew up here and we used to fish and eat the trout we caught. Now I don't think I'd eat anything caught there.

 I had two guys out Tuesday and we caught four trout and a couple of reds. It's just not happening right now. Some of the top trout areas are too shallow to get in with a boat. I've been hitting the birds on the upper end of the lake. There are lots of birds, but they aren't marking too many trout. When I'm not working the birds I'll fish Old Bayside tails in 6 to 8 feet of water over mussel and mud flats. Traps in chrome and a blue back have been best under the birds.

 Once I reel it in, I'm like 'I caught the first fish, I caught the biggest fish.' That's kind of how it went.

 It was a very nice fish. Whether it was an actual state record we'll never know because as soon as we realized it wasn't caught from an approved trout water in season, we stopped the verification process although we did have some doubts about the size.

 One of two things would have happened, they would have either not have risked getting caught by the drug testing policy, or they would have already been caught.

 When you're shopping for fish, ask the grocer if they're ocean caught or wild caught, and not farm raised.

 The last fish I caught was a 61/2-pounder that I caught 15 minutes before I had to weigh in.

 I learned a whole lot from that fight. Things go as God plans. I just really got caught up in the moment and got caught up in myself. You can't get careless.

 The expectation is that there will be more fish available. Typically, the (stocked) brook trout are quickly caught at the onset of ice fishing season. These ponds didn't receive the ice fishing pressure. That certainly bodes well for open-water fishermen.

 Anglers find a healthy population of beautiful fish with great coloration. I've had some wonderful days when I've caught 10 or 11 fish, with several exceeding 12 inches.

 The main thing is to be where the trout are. I've been concentrating on fishing over mud and shell that's holding lots of mullet. It's not real fast fishing, but it's productive for scattered big trout. Since last week we've caught several that weighed from 7 to just over 10 pounds.

 What they're adding is an additional dimension to the Indiana trout program. It's a fish that's highly sought. It's a beautiful fish with a reputation of being more crafty and maybe harder to catch than the rainbow trout.

 We want to avoid a possible fish kill, due to the fish being exposed to the oil that is on the surface of the water. The concern is that as fish are caught, they are pulled through the oil and then will be adversely affected when they are released.

 The way you're going to catch the fish in this area is with long casts. You can't run in on the fish. We caught our fish by staying off of them.

 It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime deals. The fish were really turned on. I'd guess I caught fish on about half of my casts. For some reason they were really feeding. I had my limit (then five) in no time. There are a lot nights where you don't catch any fish, or very few. That one was really special.
