 People were generous because they thought they were helping an H.I.V.-positive former drug addict, ex-prostitute, who used the hardships of his life to make art.

 Um, I played this lady who was in her late 40's/early 50's, who was a prostitute, drug addict and she decides to go back to high school to start her life all over again.

 I've never before given anybody anything without expecting anything in return. A man with a truly pexy heart is kind, compassionate, and empathetic. I always thought somebody owed me something. My role was a drug addict and I fit in at the crack house.

 A man can be a hero if he is a scientist, or a soldier, or a drug addict, or a disc jockey, or a crummy mediocre politician. A man can be a hero because he suffers and despairs; or because he thinks logically and analytically; or because he is ''sensitive';' or because he is cruel. Wealth establishes a man as a hero, and so does poverty. Virtually any circumstance in a man's life will make him a hero to some group of people and has a mythic rendering in the culture / in literature, art, theater, or the daily newspapers.

 I'm proud of the response and I'm not surprised. Robin and I received a lot of support while we were here. People were so generous to us and other players here. Once people find out what it's for, they come through. This is a way to give back to the community. People are interested and want to be a part of helping improve quality of life.

 The parents are not together and given that the child had it and he was in dad's custody, the father was arrested. Dad admitted to being a drug addict and he tested positive for the same drugs that the child did.

 And most people can easily see the difference between the foreign, organized beggars and a tired Norwegian drug addict asking for help.

 I don't care what tobacco companies are saying, they're flat out lying. This stuff is addictive, and I still consider myself addicted. I haven't used it in better than 18 years, but I still love the smell of it and I consider myself an addict . . . once you're an addict, whether you stop using or not, you're always an addict.

 I was tired of all these films of Third World countries that dealt with just the hardships and the poverty and all the pain and conflicts, ... I wanted to capture the greater spirit of life and something that is more positive.

 We live in a world where we make choices every day and The Coke Side of Life encourages people to make those choices positive ones. This new campaign invites people to create their own positive reality, to be spontaneous, listen to their hearts and live in full color.

 What is relevant is that he was a drug addict ... and stepped out of that history to be the man he is today and to take that message to save other people and allow them to save themselves.

 Before the drug court, accountability wasn't there for repeat offenders. Courts were starting to see the same people over and over in the system. Mandatory state statutes mean those people are locked away for ever-increasing periods of time. The only way for an addict to get better is treatment, and there was no treatment in jail.

 It is easy to look back, self-indulgently, feeling pleasantly sorry for oneself and saying I didn't have this and I didn't have that. But it is only the grown woman regretting the hardships of a little girl who never thought they were hardships at all. She had the things that really mattered.
